I couldn't think of one that was true, but the image of Toyota (Japanese, reliable, boring engineering) and Alfa Romeo (Sporty, glamorous, less hard wearing, design) seemed apt.

Alfa had (may still do) a reputation for being less hard wearing....Campag does not and as far as I know never has.

Weren't Campag. wheels an expensive upgrade for Alfas at one time?

Doesn't the competition commission of the EU look at things like this.

I think so and hope so.  I can imagine Campag being sold - but not to Shimano.  That would be ridiculous.

But ridiculous things do happen  :(

Strange rumour that one :-\

What I do now to be true is that Saracen were bought up by Madison/Ridgeback recently.

Or maybe not...Bike Europe - News: Update on Campagnolo Rumours

thank goodness for that. I can carry on wasting my hard-earned on pretty bits of metal that last forever.

BTW if you think Campag freewheels are noisy, how about the racket when you change gear using Shimano.. more CLLLLUNK! than click.

Can scarcely comment. There's no Campagnolo and barely and Shimano componentry in my fleet.

Campag made the wheels for the Lancia Stratos too.  Apparently they were some sort of magnesium alloy and became somewhat porous after a while.  Nice looking wheels though.

Oohh a little moment. The Stratos is my favourite car ever even though I know it was an evil beast.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

There are some pretty decent replicas around.  Most have Alfa V6 engines in them.  Not cheap though.  I had a ride in one at the Abingdon CARnival a few years ago around their sprint circuit.  Total madness.
