I have always thought of Barbara Windsor as an odious woman. Don't know why. Her comment about non-poppy wearers last month was an example.

I wouldn't use the term to describe anyone I like and/or respect.

Jeremy Hardy?

I'd suggest Andy Hamilton but he'd probably poke my eyes out with a sharp stick.

Definitely not LORD Sugar , as he insists everyone calls him.

Dame Vera Lynn.

OK then, how about Richard Branson? :demon:

I doubt we'll ever see another 'National Treasure'. It was a short-lived phenomenon associated with the early days of radio and TV. One of the final 'National Treasures' was Victoria Wood, who just predates Channel 4.

It's a precarious title, Rolf Harris used to described as one. I suppose he still is in a way, thought enough of to be locked away.

OK then, how about hitting Richard Branson around the head with a blunt instrument? :demon:

FTFY -too chummy with Bliar IMHO.   A rich kid who can't stop banging on about his private Carribean island.

National Treasures should be uplifting to the soul, be likeable , pleasant in dealings with lesser mortals and keep their political leanings mostly private.
Fry doesn't conceal his politics but neither has he been cajoled into the Lords or stood for Parliament. He also has a vulnerability (depression) which he is open about .

You could argue that David Attenborough has spoken contentiously about climate change, but that is only because he is a scientist by training and speaks the truth. It's the fools and liars who disagree with him on that issue that cause it still to be contentious.

Keef but not Sir Jagger. I think a bit of self depreciation and humour is required for national treasure status plus just not dying.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Good call about Keef. What about Brian Cant?

Ok, who's this? Probably very easy, but I don't think he's been nominated so far.
