RIP Cliff Morgan

An icon gone from the rugby world. A marvellous voice.

Met him once, albeit when I was on a schools trip to Twickenham and the member of staff said "That's Cliff Morgan!" and went up to shake his hand. We all did too, but not knowing who he was. That was a while ago, mind.
It is simpler than it looks.

I remember him, mostly via newsreels, as a fabulous fly-half - and a fabulous voice.

First game of rugby that I played was on the morning of the Barbarians v New Zealand game in January 1973.

THAT try was incredible but was matched by Cliff Morgan's commentary throughout the whole match.  Such a shame that he lost the ability to speak in later life due to cancer.

I'm gonna limp to the pub and drink 'til the rest of me is as numb as my arse.

And a great shame that BBC Radio mentioned THAT try in their piece about Cliff M and then failed to play the commentary. Just a few seconds would have reminded everyone how good he was.
Great commentator with in depth knowledge of the game. QOS now is a shadow of the programme that it was.
