Another mouse at the weekend. LMC ran past with it in her mouth. Mine, mine, mine. Of course, she ran into the spare bedroom and dropped it. It went under the piano which made getting it out mission impossible. Last seen scarpering across the hallway into the airing cupboard. No chance of getting that back unless it stumbles back out and either into the trap or a passing cat.

4.30am and I am woken up by a thud to see tiger lily coming though the window with a large ex flying rat firmly clamped in her Jaws. So I got up and found a old plastic bag and deposited ex flying rat in the bin. I am settling back down to sleep when Freddie comes through the window with a small blue tit. After another trip to the bin lgive up and have breakfast

LMC's lack of teeth means she's just making an unwanted murine delivery.

Raz the larger Lab is worried. I've cleared off one of my desk extensions and installed an ancient computer on it to run VB6 (vintage 1998), and in consequence have been Sitting In The Wrong Place all morning.  He keeps dunting my elbow and sending MOVE commands at me.

Labs are born with built-in clip-boards & stopwatches, like Henry in The Dream Team.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Pumpkin's just brought her 2nd mouse of the day in
She's had quite a lot of small things in the last week.
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

Yowling, which means one of three things:

1. Feed me now
2. I can feel a poo brewing
3. I've got the raging horn
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

How does your cat know what you are thinking?

Lab Major just came to have his ear scratched.  That's how I found out that Lab Minor had just washed it out for him.

Boy cat is wrapped around my foot/calf purring or snoring.  Occasionally wakes, licks me and then moves that his belly is on my foot.

This is very nice for me, as the vibrations and soft fur feel nice.

Freya is missing as usual. Not exactly missing as we know where her favourite place to sleep is, which isn't this house at present. There's some wasteland behind some garages four houses down and she sleeps there all curled up in the long weeds - strange cat...

Her sister Anja is wandering around aimlessly. Since they both turned three in June it's like having teenagers.

Our parrot, Coco, calls every treat a cherry.  Lately we've been leaving a bit of flesh round the stone when we eat a peach, then passing it on to him: "Cherry!"

Yesterday all the flesh came off the stone cleanly, so I gave him the last bit without the stone. Clear as a bell, he said "No cherry".

Tilly is laid on the cool stone floor. It's too hot for dogs today.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Mine (I know) were three too.

Did you have a birthday party?

Our Blackie 'officially' turns three later this month. We don't know her exact age as she was one of a litter D found under  the decking of his observatory.

We held a party for her first birthday but parties have been suspended in lockdown.

Cats ran away at 4am today, when D tried to apply flea spray, which they HATE.
Cats have not yet returned.
They fed VERY well yesterday.

D is Upset.

They will return.

I hope.

Have you tried the spot on stuff instead of the spray?
They'll hate that too cos it stinks of solvent but at least it doesn't sound like a hiss.

We've tried Spot-On but
D needs to restrain them to apply it and I can't help.
They are both very long-haired and getting it on the skin, rather than fur is difficult.
Blackie, in particular, runs away whenever D tries this.

D managed to get about half a tube of Spot-On on Big Tom last week and D is covered in bites...

With our Maine Coons we gave up and got tablets from the vet instead. Trying to get sufficient Spot On through a double layer winter coat to keep a 10kg cat healthy was not easy.

They're (predictably) back!

We bought tablets from Sainsbury's at some point but Blackie Would Not Eat.

We've not tried to force them down.

Shippham's fish paste with tablet inside.
Or in extremis, crush tablet into butter, get butter onto cats, preferably near its mouth when it will wash it off.

(Our Ginge was on tablets for the last eighteen months of his life. Sometimes it was easier than others.

We can't apply spot-on parasite treatment to LMC, she has to go to the vets. Just opening the stuff sends her running and there's no way we can restrain her – it takes a vet and three veterinary nurses and even then, she's got one shot to get it on, before LMC squiggles free. She can't be restrained twice without the administration of a general anaesthetic.

Bad Cat, on the other hand, doesn't even notice.
