* Audax Epics based on weather must involve carrying bikes for at least 1km through knee deep snow.
Something to do with recumbents, I think. Nothing a normal, sensible cyclist ever need worry about.
What's an idler return
True Audax epics come from the likes of McNasty riding 400km+ with a snapped frame held together by zipties, or Arallsopp riding all but 10km of LEL with an idler return made from rapidly disintegrating zipties and bits of shoe, or Garry King snapping his handlebars in half on *that* nasty descent early on on the Upper Thames, shimming it with a coke-can and riding the rest of the ride without complaint.

Richard is a very strong rider and cajoled us all into doing PBP in 80hrs in 2007 complete with a realistic schedule; but on his advice we all sensibly threw it out of the window on the day and just got round not caring about the time; he's probably thinking the same now.
Besides, it wouldn't be audacious if success were guaranteed.
