What does the "Gr" of the Alt Gr key stand for?

I thought it was Group.  Some people say it's Great.  Wikipedia says Graphics.  What's the truth?

It's short for "Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr", whic is the sound you make when you try to use it instead of the regular "Alt" key and find it doesn't work.

I only released I was (probably) wrong today when trying to tell someone how to type an "@" on a Swedish keyboard.  "Alt group two", I suggested.  "That's alt great!", he said.  And now it seems he was wrong as well.

Alt Graphic.

On the UK international keyboard alt gr 4 is € for instance.   alt gr 2 on a Swedish keyboard should be the @ symbol.   Perhaps the keyboard is not Swedish?

Alt Gr + 2 worked.  It's how I said it that was the issue.

On the old Sun keyboards, it was a special key for editing charts next to the one for writing symphonies
