My Italian's not too hot existent, but I guess it means or at least is intended to imply something rural.

Do they have lasagna on the menu?

They're individual ones, so they refer to each as a lasagno.

if you're worried about a trans-gender person in the girl's restroom, but not about this guy with any underage woman, you just have to clam up

[OT anecdote] None of the women in the Ladies loos at Shrewsbury station seemed at all bothered by the obviously male Giraffe's presence there last week.

Sole wheelchair accessible loo was out of order, we had missed a connection due to a train fire and I was bustin'...

Re that "Muscle Shoals", there is really a town of that name:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscle_Shoals,_Alabama

Quote
There are several explanations on how the city got its name. One is that the city gets its name from a former natural feature of the Tennessee River, namely a shallow zone where mussels were gathered. When the area was first settled, the distinct spelling "mussel" to refer to a shellfish had not yet been fully adopted.

That's their story.

I would have thought that most people who like good music would know of Muscle Shoals, or, at least, the recording studio.

I've heard of the studio but it never occurred to me that it was named after a place.

I'm going to start mine with "Why-oh-why-why!" Which doesn't refer to annoying mangling of sentence structure, but mis-pronunciation of British words. "Why-oh- (etc)" can't Americans pronounce missile, as it should be, rather than as they do – missile, pronounced as whistle. They don't pronounce projectile – projectall.

Grrrrr. (pronounced properly)

I am no domestic cleaning goddess and have not read these diaries but I presume the 'floor cloth' refers to chamois leather.

I thought that was used for windows not floors...

recon = reconnoitre surely?

I always thought that recon was short for reconditioned and is pronounced ree-con. As in 'recon engine'.

The internet says I'm wrong, it's pronounced ri-'con and means reconnaissance. Surely the word for that is recce?
I'd happily go with either, but not reckon

I reckon you're right either way about 'recon'.

I did see someone use 'tangiful' earlier rather than 'tangible'. But I think it's a word the English language is sorely missing.
