Snow Roads 2022
« on: 18 January, 2022, 05:20:16 pm »
The Snow Roads 300km Audax returns for the 100th Anniversary of people riding 300km under ACP rules.
https://audax.uk/event-details?eventId=9433

The only real major change is that Accommodation will only be available on the Saturday night this year.
There is a possibility that the Gairnshiel bridge will be closed for replacement although it is an off line replacement and the road closure advertised is for tree felling I just need to confirm when, so potential fording or detour via Strathdon and Dinnet.

How I've ended up running this is almost stranger than fiction...

Gairnshiel bridge being potentially closed is a  perennial feature of this event!

This might be on my recovery plan.

A taper to the Swedish 1200 perhaps?

Great route. Sadly I don't think I'd be up to 30km these days, let alone 300!

Same. Loved the one we did, even though I cried a few times and almost died with heatstroke.

I entered a few months ago to beat the rush.

Wont be seeking to ECE it into a 600 like wot I tried in 2018 (DNFd the whole thing at Braemar so maybe 240km of the Snow Roads and 400km of my ECE done at that point.  I was fried.

In a moment of weakness I hit the 'ENTER' button about a month ago - If I complete it, it will be my 4th Snow Roads  ::-)

The Snow Roads was the first ever Audax I did, back in 2010.

It has a certain place in my affections for that, and I have ridden it every year since, as part of my SR series.
I've now ridden this 11 times.

I hope to continue this unbroken run this year.

Ive just emailed th'organiser to confirm my DNS.

Younger daughter arrives back in the UK from New Zealand that day and Ive not seen her since January 2020.

I've vaguely pencilled in Saturday 21 May to ride it as a DIY.

I'm a DNS too. Recently diagnosed iron deficient and have to undergo some "diagnostic tests" before I can start iron supplements  :-\

Short and steady rides for the near future  :(
