Oh dear, I've had a mishap!!!
« on: 05 July, 2015, 05:35:09 pm »
Fractured left scapula after coming off on gravel strewn corner in the rain!  What a tit!  :-[
Nothing to show for it yet, bruise wise, but I'm back to hostipal tomorrow for a CT scan at the fracture clinic. Breathing deep, sneezing, coughing, laughing, burping, and sniffing is really painful, Co-Dydramol knocks it back a bit though, Wearing a sling courtesy of St. John's, which is taking the weight off my immobile shoulder.

Bike is fine, just a scuffed brake lever.
Tomorrow will be my first non riding day since Nov. '11.  :(

Oodles of sympathy and piss taking are expected for my convalescence..

I'm really, really impressed that you've ridden every day for three and a half years! Are you on the run our something? I think you deserve a couple of days off. GWS and enjoy the drugs.

Breathing deep, sneezing, coughing, laughing, burping, and sniffing is really painful,
Best to avoid sneezing, coughing, laughing, burping and sniffing.  To be on the safe side, stop breathing entirely.

I found with a broken shoulder, laughing pretty much took care of itself. :(

Bike is fine, just a scuffed brake lever.
That's the important information

OUCH! GWS!
Hope ribs beneath scapula are OK!
It's not a common injury, though I knew a chap with a drink issue who suffered this.

Mend well and fast!

Badly drawn X marks the spot and then, channelling $ProRider, I soldiered on a bit until I realised it was a bit more serious. Stopped at the audax hotel at the top of Middlemead for bro. and SiL to rescue me. I didn't want an amblyance as I could have ended up at Basildon!  :o

GWS. Listen to the quacks and your body. Don't risk damaging yourself trying to get back in the saddle too soon...

GWS, hope it heals straight. Mine didn't and scrapes my ribs when I move my shoulder.

Sounds nasty. Take it easy; don't push yourself too hard to get back on the bike or you may do more harm.

A shame you will miss Hereward the Wake but Tom's Autumn rides are just as good :)

Clarion, I tried the not breathing but the problems it brings far outweigh any pain relieving benefits.  ;)

GWS.  At least there's the TdF to watch.

A CO2 pump is a good idea if you haven't already got one.  After my collar-bone healed in 2002 I had a flat on my first outing and no longer had enough strength in my arm to pump up again - had to flag someone down.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight
