I wonder if they can put a cleat in the plaster?

Couple of rivet nuts into the bottom of the plaster should do the job.

I couldn't do the first one without the cast fouling the crank, never thought of the second, seems a better bet.

Dare I ask, what did Mrs. Miggins have to say when your ladder slid away? Was she about?

She was attending her book club meeting at the time. I didn't tell her until I had returned from the hospital.
One of the marina staff gave me a lift home whereupon Mrs Migs produced restorative bacon sandwiches.
She's a star!

I don't think plaster of Paris would be strong enough to withstand torsion from a cleat.

Fibreglass might be OK BUT...

If the cast doesn't come off, you don't want to be getting sweaty in it anyway.

GWS

Was seriously high up a ladder at the weekend removing excess Kiftsgate Rose from tree but fortunately had CET Junior standing on the bottom rung to stop same from happening; thoughts crossed my mind that wrestling with sharp-tentacled-triffid-in-the-sky was not conducive to long term cycling health.

I had a call from Peterborough Hospital today, would I go in for an X-ray and CT scan.
Mrs Miggins delivered me and images were efficiently obtained.
When I got home, I had a call from the sec to the orthopaedic consultant. They want me to attend at 08.30 tomorrow. That's good service I thought, that is until she mentioned nil by mouth from midnight!
I swear I could hear knives being sharpened in the background.

Thanks Helly, I have managed to avoid any form of operation up to now.
I shall keep you posted.

Well, I have avoided the knife so far.
It transpires that I have not only broken the ends of three metatarsals, but smashed the bones to which they are attached.
I have been plastered up with a slit cast because of the swelling and have the return in a week for further X-ray .
If all is well, five weeks with no load bearing then a further five in a load bearing boot.
I also have to inject a blood thinning agent once a day, yippee!
Bloody hell I'm bored already!

You don't do things by halves, do you?

I believe there is a recumbent somewhere around that accommodates this sort of injury.

Behave! How does that work Bob.
I shall just have to get on with the construction of a lovely harbour tug scale model for the grandsons.

Back to the hospital yesterday for more X-ray (I shall glow in the dark)
The consultant was happy so four more weeks in current plaster with no weight bearing, then, six weeks in a walking boot.

Heavy buggers, plaster casts.

Bon courage.

Depends on whether he is in a modern grp cast or plaster of paris. The GRP ones are as light as a feather and allow air through.

Just catching up on this. Sounds like you've really done a good job on that one. Hope everything sorts itself out quickly and you are back on the bike soon :)

GWS incidentally, don't do what I did and injure a completely different limb after recovering from a leg    Fitness, what's that then? :(
