Title: DIY's en Ecosse
Post by: megajoules expenditure on 31 October, 2009, 03:35:28 pm
Just a nudge to let those of you know who don't already that Alex Pattison is taking over the Scotland area DIY's from 1st November and all entries/route checks/card orders should now be sent to him for approval.

I would appreciate the cards from the last few days of the season being forwarded promptly to me for processing to complete the season.

Many thanks to Alex for taking on the job.

Hope to see everyone on the road a bit more in the new season.

Pedal Up 8)

Lucy

Oh aye, no cards validated without a prior entry.
You have been warned.  >:(

And a big thanks to Lucy for all her help.  :-*

OK, Mr Eck - what's the your rules?

It might be a good time for you to lay down your terms, so that in future when you knock back a ride there will be no point in riders complaining.  :hand:

Do you require a specific date, or is that only for salar55?  :P

Last minute (night before) indication of intention to ride, or can we ride anytime as long as you have valid entry form?

Cards returned within 48hrs?

That sort of thing.  Anyway, a big thanks for taking on this onerous task and an equal big big thanks to Lucy for looking after us in recent years. [manly handshake] for eck,  :-* for Lucy.

I'd like to reiterate the thanks to Lucy for all of her sterling work on DIYs in the past.  A job well done.

Welcome aboard, Mr P. It's probably worth once again mentioning the official guidelines (http://www.aukweb.net/cal/perms/diy.pdf).

OK, Mr Eck - what's the your rules?

"My" rules are the same as "the" rules:
http://www.aukweb.net/cal/perms/diy.pdf (http://www.aukweb.net/cal/perms/diy.pdf)

Route agreed beforehand.
Entry received for that route - before you ride it.
Either a date on the entry or a "last minute indication"- for everone.
Not too fussed about the 48hour thing, but the sooner I get the card, the sooner it gets validated.

I'm not too keen on being presented with a new route and an entry for that ride the next day. If you do that, you take the risk that I won't have time to check it before you set off. If it turns out to be under distance, well....  :'(

If you do a ride without a previous entry, and send me an entry along with your completed card after the ride, well, that's nul points to you. No exceptions.

Oh, aye, no info controls on DIYs. Ever.

Well, you did ask.  :)

EDIT, thanks Ian, was just about to do that!

:hand:
Lissen pal, as long as you live up to my standards, we'll get along just fine.  :demon:

Naw, I do realise I have a hard act to follow, and will try My Very Best to keep up the high standards that Lucy has set.  :)

...Route agreed beforehand...

My understanding of the guidelines is that submission of controls is all that's required. An entrant is entirely responsible for ensuring the distance is okay. I do check routes if asked and if there's time, but I don't think I'm obliged to.

Many thanks for a grand job done Lucy. Esp for tolerance of my less than perfect routes etc. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it in the decades to come.

In my experience of doing DIYs with Sheila, Lucy and Joe as my local organiser, I have never submitted a route or had one agreed, only the list of controls. After all even on calendar events all we have to do is visit the controls in the right order and not too fast and not too slow. The actual route taken or prescribed is not mandatory so long as the shortest is far enough.

Correction, thanks to much more experienced DIY organiser, Ian H.
I don't need the "route", just controls. And it's your job to make sure in advance that it's up to distance.

Indeed, as you have just pointed out, MSeries.

Singin' off the same hymn-sheet - it's not always that AUK manages that.
