Bloody CFL "light bulbs".  None I've ever had has lasted as long as it's supposed to.  Just had a big expensive one conk out tonight.  And I didn't keep the receipt.

The CFL in our bathroom has developed an interesting habit of dropping in brightness about 1.5 seconds after switch on.  That probably means it's going to die soon, and I'll have to replace it with something LEDish that doesn't give you 5 minutes of 3am-pee-compatible dimness before it gets up to full power.

Yup.  The one on our landing failed this week.
I've replaced it with an old tungsten 60w that I found in the cupboard under the sink.

I bought a couple of those adaptor wossnames off the Mega-Global Big River Corporation of Seattle, USAnia the other week so I can use up my vast stock of small screw-fitting spotlight bulbs.

Still got a couple of bayonet-fitting CFL jobbies (freebies) waiting for when the bulb goes in the Lesser Bedchamber or the Estate Office which, at current usage rates, will be some time after my eleventy-first birthday.

Just had a count. A few tungstens still in use but only one of them is a bog standard jobbie, all the others are either halogen, reflectorised or speshul dimmable things.

I keep an old battery rear-light beside the bed for such expeditions.  It's a single-LED doodah that casts sharp shadows so I can plan at silhouettes on the back of the bathroom door (translucent) while awaiting enlightenment.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

I prefer LEDs to CFLs nowdays, but these too tend to fail early for me.  (Talking about domestic lamp "bulbs" here).

They've just run a piece on the Londonton news about that whale that got stuck in the Thames ten years ago.  "This could only have happened in London" exclaimed a grinning twerp over the number of agencies and induhviduals involved in the futile whale-saving nonse, citing for emphasis the involvement of the Port of London Authority.

"If it happened today we'd probably euthanise the whale" said an unemotional expert.  Could he practice on people who make you say "O RLY"?

Glad my Disco has a BFO battery.  Daughter left the reading light on last night, not noticed until 10:30 this morning  >:(

For a moment I was wondering why you had a reading light on your On One Dirty Disco, then I twigged: it's for map reading, of course!  :D

I am involved in a spat on another parish with a so-called expert. S/he fails to read my posts properly, then makes assertions on spurious assumptions. Rather annoying. I have called them out and now I'm getting the 'I was only trying to help' angle. Well, matey, stick to the facts or shut up.

Decided to drop into the supermarket while I was in town this evening. After picking the first few items I realised I hadn't picked up my wallet, so I had to put the things back on the shelves and go home

I find I only do that in two particular shops: the greengrocers and the hippy egg shop.  ::-)

She's keeping you safe from the clutches of the evil supermarket. Very considerate of her.

Yurts are for weaving yogurt in. Stands to reason.
