Watched the Reginald D Hunter wossname tonight.  It was teh Aces.

It's his RADA training luvvee.

See this?  That's me not caring ;D  Proper intelligent TV interspersed with Mr Larrington pointing at the box and shouting "Ooh, I got stuck in a traffic jam there!"

I often enthral my wife with interesting anecdotes such as "I cycled through there on <insert name of Audax>" during "A Place in the Country".

She never ever gets bored of my Audaxing tales, nor the gin and the Valium either.
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

Having been a bit of a dozy sod and not got started to Wolf Hall, I find Ep 1 has vanished from Auntie's magnificent iPlayer.

I don't suppose anyone happens to have an, um, backup that could do with being stored offsite? I'd be more than happy to inspect it for integrity.

Ah. I can help in this regard.

You've Been Framed was odd last night - mostly rubbish but there was a great clip of some middle-aged woman falling down the stairs.

Are you sure you weren't watching the programme celebrating the success of the music industry, "You've Been Farmed"?
It is simpler than it looks.

It may well have been. My mum doesn't usually let me watch ITV so I'm not all that familiar with its content.

Hopefully a few reruns of that middle aged woman falling down the stairs will liven up tonight's TV

No, but the same thing happened to a colleague whom I persuaded to watch this!

My advice is the same - its probably watchable starting from Ep2. If you really struggle you can lookup all the history! But I don't think you will; its not really that kind of story.

The Reginald D Hunter music thingy, it's good, courtesy of iPlayer.

That will be followed by the last episode of Wolf Hall.

It did, you did. I am now in a position to confirm the file's integrity (not to mention fail to comment on the historical accuracy or rigour of the book adaptation), for which much thanks.

And what's more I've fettled MediaBrowser onto our NowTV box, so we can watch stuff on the telly rather than on the computer, without need for transcoding or popping large files onto a USB stick. (We are late developers when it comes to any of this media server or Smart TV malarkey.)

due to a "radio 1" policy at wrok, I've been hearing about this all day. (very irritating, as it happens)

After EGs post, i feel no compulsion to watch the video - it can't possibly compare.

BBC4, 21:00 tonight, Joy Division.  I'm not a big fan of JD but this still promises to be interesting.

Yeah, I'll be checking that out too. I never listen to them now, but if ever there was a rock&roller who got lost in their own despair, never able to see beyond his own personal hell, and believing in it, it was Ian Curtis, and boy some of the stuff on those two albums expressed that.

Must admit, I didn't like 'Control'.....just found it a bit tedious and self-indulgent [which was fair enough actually, because it was about Curtis more than anything], but this looks a bit more interesting as regards placing him in the context of the band. Brilliantly unique sound they had too.

Turns out the JD programme dates from 2007 - my lying liar of a TV listings magazine claimed it was "NEW".  I'd not seen it before, though, and found it rather good.

Disclaimer: didn't see the prog.  However, Ian Curtis died in 1980, which means that any archive footage will probably be either 2" VT (not so likely) 1" VT (quite likely), U-Matic (maybe) or 16mm film.  Old 2" can look quite good, as long as you find someone who can remember how to line them up and get rid of the quad banding.  1" looks soft.  U-Matic is ropey.  16mm film can look good, but stuff from that era usually doesn't.  None of the above are HD, so why make them worse by upconverting?    If the rest of the prog was talking heads, it'll either be old musos, who aren't usually that pretty, or people too young to remember Joy Division, whose opinions are irrelevant…   ;D

At least Paul Morley was rather less of a pseud than he was in the Kraftwerk one the other week.

Talking about picture quality, why did the recent re-showing of Smiley's People look so terrible?  It was shot on film.  Rather than show what-looked like an ancient video tape conversion, couldn't the Beeb have been arsed to make a remaster from the original film?  Or is the original film lost or crap, too?

There have been complaints about the Blu-ray version as well.

At a guess, remastering takes time and costs money.

But far less money than making new drama - of which I wouldn't mind a tiny tad less.

I'm liking "How We Got To Now with Steven Johnson".  Series of five; 1-4 available on iPlayer with the last one broadcast on BBC2, 19:30, March 14th.  Originally made for PBS so somewhat US-centric but contains some interesting historical Stuffs.  Previous eps have been "Clean", "Time", "Cold" and "Light", with "Sound" still to come.
