I had a very varied commute this morning - I'll let the bridges tell the story...

Viaduct near Eynsford

La Rochelle-Ile de Ré toll bridge. I once walked across it and back with Cat while waiting for her plane home from La Rochelle, just to dip our toes on the island and say we'd done it!

We went for a family camping holiday on the island about 10 years ago. Took the bikes, of course. I went for a solo long ride to the mainland one day, so cycled across the bridge... it was HORRIBLE!

I'm not surprised. I dislike cycling or walking across the Avonmouth bridge, due to the constant noise (it's alongside the M5), and the La Rochelle bridge looks at least five times as long.

No. But it's worth posting anyway.

It’s not so much the length, it’s more the height (quite steep getting on to it). Plus it’s very flat round that part of the world, so very exposed, and therefore very windy.

I do not remember the footpath being bad in that respect.from memory it was slightly below and apart from the motorised roadway - and there wasn't too much traffic when we did it.

I'm sure we've had this one before, but I went and checked it was still there:

It's still covered in scaffolding on the Google Street View.

I cycled past it a few years ago, can't remember what ride it was on, but I do remember being surprised at it being much smaller than I remembered. But then the last time I'd visited was as a small person.

And then I had a Wagon Wheel...  :o

Talking of small persons

Bourton on the Water
and here it is in real life - can't remember when this was. 15+ years ago I think

There was a sign on the village end of the ford saying "Deep Ford Unsuitable for Motors" and a photo, now long lost, of me emptying my shoes after cycling across it during a Cheltenham YHA Group Junior section outing. Everyone else took the bridge

A chunky looking bridge over the River Soar that used to carry trains loaded with granite from Mountsorrel quarry to the Midland main line.  Nowadays the track and trains have been replaced by a 2km long conveyor belt.

I had some time to spare in Reading last month, so took the opportunity to do some bridgery.

Bridge of the day contender, there

With knobs on.

Same bridge, with emphasis on the knob. You can see the knob on the other side if you squint hard enough.

Puente La Bogaña, Villanueva del Fresno, Extremadura, Spain. Found this gem several km down a dirt road in the middle of nowhere.
