Ham, that link shows a vacuum cleaner repair, which has its own interest!
It's hard to know where to start (or stop) with poignant lines by John Prine. One of my favourites, Late John Garfield Blues, apart from its standard Prine obliqueness, contains a terrific stanza which, sadly, resonates in our family only too well:-
Old man sleeps with his conscience at night
Young kids sleep with their dreams,
While the mentally ill
Keep perfectly still
And live through life's in-betweens
