My BiL (*2) have Canon. I have Nikon.

Nikon kit lens is better. Canon glass is cheaper. The consumer dSLR are designed for midgets (I think BiL#1 was quite envious of the D80)

Anyway, it isn't about the kit..

Err.. Olympus :)
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

I settle for Pentax. The old lenses have a better feel for me.

Canon for us here.  Someone once said "Leica make the best lenses, Nikon make the best cameras, Canon make the best compromise".

I love the Nikon SP, but the Canon 7 is a classic design
Getting there...

I used to have a Contax RTS.....now I have a Nikon D70 (pre-loved). Really I don't think there's a great deal to choose between brands these days, it's probably more about how a perticular camera feels to handle (or in my case what my colleague was selling!)

Pentax.  But I do have a recently-acquired Nikon.

Still love the Pentaxes though

I started with a Cosina, then a pentax ME, then a nikon 401 (which got pinched), then I switched to canon and had a couple of EOS', most recently an EOS 50.

When I switched to digital I got a pre-loved 10D then upgraded to a silly price used 1D when I was working in New York a couple of years ago.

The new Nikons look amazing and the gadget magpie in me wants me to switch, but it wouldnt help me take better photos - I'm gonna stick with what I've got and learn to use it better.

Used a Nikon F for years. Totally brilliant camera. At the time when it finally died, I had a job that involved testing a lot of camera stuff. I was impressed with what Canon had, and have pretty much stuck with it ever since. It's not that I went off Nikon. It's just that, at the time (late 80s, early 90s), I think Canon had the edge on the high end consumer market. Not sure about the prof side - probably fairly even.

Canon for me - but only out of habit.

I don't think there is enough between them - advantages on both sides.

Nikon has the better name, but Canon has the better DSLR.

Anyway, the answer is Leica, and rangefinder.

Had a bit of a play with someone's Nikon D3 at a retirement do today - indoor - no flash, auto iso/auto white balance.  Big and heavy...but superb,  really nice shutter trip feeling and sound, and LCD is impressive.

Canon have 80-90% of the market for pro and pro-am sports and wildlife photography now - just check out all those white lenses at the touchline.
It's because Canon introduced image stabilisation on their long lenses starting about 10 years ago, but Nikon only introduced it about a year ago, apart from a couple of zooms. There's also a substantial price difference in Canon's favour - 400/2.8 £1400, 500/4 £500, 600/4 £500.

Nikon ;D  I reckon the d300 is a serious rival for the 5D.
