should I keep it in the fridge ???
Does it say so on the label?
Mine just says keep in a cool dark place so it's in a cupboard.
-
No - I read somewhere that it congeals, or the oils separate or something...
They don't last long in my house anyway.

No.

Cupboard.
Oh and whats your favourite peanut butter? Mines Tesco's reduced fat smooth peanut butter.
-
Yep, agree peanut butter keeps fine in the cupboard, usually for a few months easily. If its natural stuff (no added vegetable oil), the oil might separate a bit, but you can just stir it back in.
Oh and whats your favourite peanut butter?
Meridian Natural peanut butter, crunchy. No added sugar or salt, the only ingredient is peanuts. And it's available in 1kg tubs (which I usually eat in a couple of weeks).

How can you have reduced fat peanut butter? What's in it instead of peanuts?

Any without added sugar, smooth or crunchy. Currently have Whole Earth.
Anyone know about any peanut butter that is just peanuts?
Holland and Barratts used to grind their own in store until peanut allergies started hitting the headlines.

Some ad vegtable oil.
Tesco ones I've noticed contain vegtable oil and salt. Didn't used to.
Oh well where can you get no added any thing peanut butter?

The Whole Earth brand is 97% peanuts and the rest is palm oil, supposedly ground peanuts on their own are a bit unspreadable.

Many thanks for all the replies, I haven't eaten it for years as I remember that I was not too keen on it, but I thought I would give it a go I bought Sun-Pat extra crunchy first impressions just OK, tried it on home made brown bread I will see later what's it like on toast

But adding vegetable oil would increase the fat content. From a brief search, it seems that the reduced fat peanut butter is only about 60 or 70% peanuts, and instead includes sugar / syrup and soya protein.

Try your local health food shop. Both the Meridian Foods and Suma brands do stuff that's just peanuts. Yes, its not quite as spreadable as the usual stuff, but its not bad if you stir in the oil that separates out.

Crunchy, in sandwiches with chopped bananas and honey.... audax EPO!

Palm oil is not that nice both environmentally and taste wise.

Will try thanks for the advice.

Don't keep it in the fridge, it tends to get too hard to spread. As for the best, if you want peanut taste then the Whole Earth ones (the Cashew Nut butter is rather nice too). For an out and out kiddy style peanut butter treat you have to go a long long way to beat Skippy Super Crunch.
