Streep as Thatcher
« on: 30 July, 2010, 06:05:04 pm »
I've heard that there's a film currently being made in which Margaret Thatcher is played by Meryl Streep, with the main character being portrayed as a senile old bat who is unaware that her husband is dead, looking back on her life and works. Apparently "Sir" Mark and Carol are up in arms about the whole project.

I don't watch many films but I reckon this is one I won't be able to miss.

Only fair, since they've done Bliar a couple of times.  Can't they just get Janet Brown though?  She's still performing and is the right age.

Cast David Cameron in the role.

He probably dresses up as her in the privacy of his S&M dungeon anyway.

Sad though it may seem, fillum producers have to cast a Merkin in a lead role as, otherwise, the Merkins won't be interested ::-).

I watched a truly shite film (free with a newspaper) in which Streep played an ever-so-English SOE agent in occupied France. Well, her French was atrocious for a start, but when it came to her English...

I think Woofage's point covers that as well. But certainly it seems a shame to cast Meryl Streep as Thatcher.

In Hollywood, English actors only play baddies.  Oh, wait... ;)

I suppose she's going to be portrayed as a genial heroine rather than a dogmatic loon  ::-)

Actually, she's been unavailable since the end of May...

Definitely.

Despite him saying several times he hasn't seen the film, he repeatedly refers to Glenn Close being in it??
