What are these symbols?
« on: 22 February, 2019, 01:23:47 pm »
Anybody know what these symbols are.  Obviously some religious connection. Been there for some time, so the numbers may be years.

21st June is my daughter's wedding anniversary, but I don't think she's been to Llandysul. It's mid summer's day too. Is it some kind of pagan thing?

I assumed pagan ritual of some sort.

I thought not pagan due the crosses.  Something to do with the door knocking people?

Doubt it, they're known for rejection of symbols.

My money's on the Freemasons, they use the G for Gnosis and the arrow is very reminiscent of a lodge symbol for Most Worshipful Grand Master.

I could ask the F-i-L, he's a former Most Worshipful Grand Master, but he won't answer and will only get in a huff when I start taking the proverbial.

Is that like being a former Miss World? With a tendency to unnatural skin tone, and marriage to grey-haired tap-dancers?

The crosses look slightly ankh-y, not entirely Christian.

One of them's the symbol for a woollen mill, I think. No idea about the others. HTH. Have you found out any more Basil?

Looks reminiscent of depression-era hobo symbols, I'd guess indicating which houses were/weren't worth visiting, which means they probably aren't.

That woollen mill one might mean "shelter behind the church", for example.
