Looking at it again there's another set of footprints on the left, in the middle distance, as well as the ones beyond the undergrowth.

Iddu was pushing his bike through the snow for reasons already explained. But that isn't Iddu's bike. Someone else had already had the same idea but given up and walked home, leaving their bike jammed upright in the snow. Iddu found it and took a photo.

Regardless of all that, I've just been standing on the balcony bollock naked, a la Wowbagger.

It is cold but nothing like as cold as it is invigorating.

No photos.
It is simpler than it looks.

This adds credibility to the invisible man hypothesis.

Mine, all mine...

Looks wonderful!

And I can’t see what you did. I can guess what you did, but I can’t see it.

Walked back up the way you came and down the other side of the undergrowth on the left?

Having looked at the image full-size in a new tab, there is something in the shadow of the bank, level with where the trail of footprints stops, which might indicate disturbed snow.

So my hypothesis is that iddu simply took a shorter route off the trail to get where he took the photographs.

Now I eagerly await a post from iddu saying I'm wrong as well.  ;D

Nope - spot on...by fortune they’re indeed hidden in the shadow...
I'd offer you some moral support - but I have questionable morals.

Headed up to Birse Castle, which I'd never even heard of till this week, to do a hill run route which starts from there.

The castle is at the end of a very long and winding road, and the last couple of miles were in deep snow which had no existing tracks on it.  Perhaps the fact that I needed 4WD with diffs locked to get to the starting point should have served as a warning.  The castle is rather magnificent, and has clearly been restored recently.  It appears to be unoccupied at this time of year.

Set off running, and the track, such as it was, disappeared into deep snowdrifts within a k. Navigation was becoming difficult, and running impossible.

Aborted, and did a more accessible 10k up Clachnaben instead.
Well-trodden tourist path made navigation possible, but even that became a wade through deep drifts near the summit!
Beautiful winter mountain conditions, but a bit marginal for hill running :-)

White over south of Chester, but very soggy and melting rapidly.  Can't see the Berwyns, covered in clag.  Wonder how my wife's seedlings are doing in the greenhouse?

Bit of a surprise this morning: -

As I'm pretty much on the coast it's a bit of a surprise. I'll have a look at the webcams in land before trying my planned ride up to Carlisle this afternoon.

Flew back from Munich to Manchester last night, everything delayed because of the wind and our taxi driver opted for M62/M1 over Snake or Woodhead Pass to get us back to Sheffield.

Good decision given the snowy conditions going over the top of Windy Hill
