FOR SALE: RECUMBENT Metabike SWB High Racer 700c
« on: 19 December, 2016, 09:50:55 am »
Up for sale is my Metabike recumbent. This is one of several I have owned, and definitely my favourite. Up for sale now as I am looking at a velomobile. The frame is aluminium, nice and stiff, and very fast. I’m just an average cyclist, and I could average 20mph on this machine. The best thing about it is that, for a recumbent, it can go fast uphill as well as down! It is of course very comfortable, the ventisit seatpad is almost brand new, and sits on a carbon fibre seat.
The frame is very versatile and you can fit 700c, 26” and 20” wheels on it, as well as rim or disc brakes. I have run it with both 700c and 26”. The rear brake bridge is reversible, and the rear dropout width is 132mm so can accommodate both 130mm road wheels as well as 135mm MTB wheels. I am 5’9” and the frame will adjust many inches either way. The seat has three positions, and the boom can adjust in and out.

I built it up to be fast and light. The wheels are a 1500g pair of Pave 28’s with 25mm Conti GP4000s tyres and conti tubes. The shifters are 10 speed Ultegra with shimano brakes. The chainset is Shimano 105 (165mm – ideal for a recumbent), 105 long cage rear derailleur, Ultegra front derailleur, 105 10 speed cassette and shimano Ultegra chain.

Also included is a custom neck rest (adjustable and removable), a custom made twin bottle holder (I have removed the cages), and a German made seat back bag which is very roomy.

All in all a superb recumbent with very little miles, built up with new components, fast and light.

The bike will fit on a standard car bike rack.

Delivery / courier etc. can be arranged, please message me to discuss.

I’m sure I’ve left stuff out, so please message me with any questions. Have loads more pictures too.

A very versatile bike, I enjoyed mine whilst I had it. Good luck with the sale.

I have just weighed the bike (in reply to a question), and it comes in at just over 11kg. This is without peddles, but with the seat bag and headrest attached. Very light for a recumbent, my Optima Baron low racer was 14kg.

Cheers.

Disappointing to see it not sell.  I was very, very tempted indeed but being in the middle of some extensive house renovation work right now means I don't have that sort of money to spare.

I'd have been tempted too, but I've heard that some high racers present a 'feet on the ground' problem for shorter people and would be reluctant to buy any high racer without trying it first.
I don't want to grow old gracefully. I want to grow old disgracefully.

I've relisted again, in no real hurry to sell it. As for the height, I am 5' 9" with a shortish 30" xseam, and have no trouble getting my feet down with the 700c wheels. I've also run it with 26" wheels (dropping it another 6cm), and I have seen one with 20" wheels. I still have the carbon forks for a 26" wheel that i could include if anyone was interested.

You'll know that seat height is a significant factor in the high racers, so maybe worth putting the seat height in the ad?  Your xseam looks v small, do you mean inseam?  I've a 29" inseam (inside leg (suits you sir....)) and a 43"xseam.   Seat height on my SAKI highracer is 57cm, and I wouldn't want it much higher.  The Amigo (20/26) is 51cm, and that's a doddle to get my feet down.

I've always liked the fact that this bike can easily switch between 26" and 700c wheels, makes it very versatile. Use the 700's for day rides, club runs and such but switch to the 26" and fatter rubber for touring and rougher roads.  Laidback in Edinburgh had a Metabike on 26" wheels a while ago and it did seem to work well on the smaller wheels.  I've also read elsewhere that it rides very well with a 700c rear and 26" front as a little more of the weight is over the front.

I have just measured the seat height, and it is 61cm. My xseam is 41", inseam being the 30". Cheers.

Sorry to hear that your not having much luck selling the Meta.  As I've already said, were it not for the very expensive year we're expecting this year I'd be very interested indeed.

Cheers. It will sell, and I'm in no hurry. The second place bidder would have taken it, but while i awaited a reply from the non paying high bidder he bought the metabike frame that Kevin at Dtek was selling!
