Never liked his sort of music,  which makes it odd that my favourite tune of all time and my first  desert island disc is Witicha Lineman.
rip.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Wichita Lineman is an embodiment of the positive aspects of 'machismo'. Working away from home to provide for a family. Which is why it resonates. It's also interesting for the six-string bass solo.

Yup.  That fits.  Fell in love with it on 26 hour runs across the Mid West on the crew bus on various  AC/Leppard tours.  Also U2's Stranger In A Strange Land.   (It may not actually be called that)

It works especially well for anyone who has strung wire for a living. I might go out and do some fences tomorrow as a tribute.

I was wondering the other day what my favourite 'Country' song is. It's either 'Wichita Lineman' or 'Ode to Billie Joe'. Both narratives.

But I an partial to 'Harper Valley PTA'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOZPBUu7Fro

He had a beautiful voice, but beyond Wichita Lineman I was hardly aware of his music. But of country music I've always noticed individual songs rather than artists.

I remember him falling down a pit full of rattlers in True Grit.

The 6-string bass is interesting.

IIRC, Ode to Bille Joe was the first record played on Radio One, picked by HRH Mrs. Townsend (not).

The title song from his last album, Adios is a real tear-jerker.

RIP Glen.

He was a fantastic guitarist. Before his solo career he was part of the famous Wrecking Crew in the 60s and that were studio musicians that played on loads of hits. He played on Pet Sounds amongst others famous recordings.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

I thought it was Flowers in the Rain by The Move.

RIP Glen.

I was listening to that a few weeks ago.

No one's mentioned 'True Grit'. Love that song.

I was reduced to tears when my friend Joyce showed me a video she has now put on my bookface page, of his song "I ain't going to miss you"

He had to have somebody hold up the words for him because Alzheimer's, and the song's message can be summed up as :
You're the only woman I ever loved, but when I go, I won't miss you, because I won't be able to remember you.

Devastating.

Shit and damnation, another memory blasted.  I distinctly remember the BBC news mentioning her opening some radio station or other with OBJ. Maybe it was just a visit.

Agreed, it's almost impossible to listen to when you know the context of the song.

Beautiful voice and an underrated guitarist.

Here's my favourite song of his (well, a cover but who's counting?).

Some voices transcend my dislike of "the Country& Western Sound".
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

I'm listening to it but I can't watch it, though - all the jigging about looks like a queue for the cludge.
