Spec for Highways contructed/maintained cycle facilites..?

Anyone know where the specifications e.g. width etc, for cycle facilities constructed / maintained by county council highways can be found?

There are different guides depending on where you are and what type of facility is being provided (on or off carriageway)

Google for "Cycling by Design" which is the Scottish standard or "The Geometric Design of Pedestrian, Cycle and Equestrian Routes" or "cycling friendly infrastructure" which are english standards for off and on carriageway respectively. though they may have been superseded

They should also be available from HMSO who publish them.

ETA:

Cycle friendly infrastructure has been replaced by cycle infrastructure design which can be found from the DfT here

Although this is the de-facto standard.

There is no 'specification' however you can use the published works as examples of good practice and ask councils etc to justify why they are deviating from them, and if they do where the risk assessments are (and consequently who will be professionally liable for such decisions). Those are the terms that put the shivers up the road engineers, more than the councillors demanding it is done on a shoe string 'we did the best with the money available' is not an acceptable answer when for motor traffic it is costed according to the specification in DMRB.

In Scotland Cycling By Design is de-facto required for trunk roads and I have successfully used it to enforce good practice in non-trunk local situations.

Thanks.  Can anyone confirm that it is in fact an adjacent landowner's (construction company) responsibility to clear/prune vegetation encroaching on a dual use path, rather than County Highways?  There is a local dual use path which is severely width restricted due to branches and leaf litter, and OCC have just said 'not our responsibility, and they will forward complaint'.

In our London borough, the council will send a letter to the landowner, but if they don't clear it, will cut it and charge the landowner for the work. Not sure what the actual law is.

We had a walnut tree in our garden and once received a note from the council telling us to trim it back.
There was no mention of what might happen if we didn't and when I asked for a delay until the winter, the chap was quite happy with that.
