Does ibuprofen reduce inflammation?

I've got inflammation in a wrist tendon and/or sheath.

Does ibuprofen actually reduce inflammation or does it just give temporary relief from the symptoms?

Yes, it does actually reduce the inflammation. This can be beneficial in helping the healing process, but sometimes inflammation is there for a reason and taking vitamin I can be detrimental in the long term. Use with care.

Inflammation is part of the healing process and there's some evidence that recovery from injury could be delayed by taking NSAIDs.

Having said that, I still think it's a good analgesic for short-term use, even in acute injury.

Most injuries heal and if this takes (eg) 5% longer because I've had a little VitI, I'll still be happy that in the first couple of days I was comfortable, slept well and didn't adopt bad postural habits as a result of pain.
