Decent long stockings?

I find the breeches/cutoffs & long stockings combination the most versatile for our changeable weather, but the cheapy football socks you get in any sports shop wear out very quickly.  Can you recommend something with a better cost/wear value?

Smartwool socks rock, here: https://www.smartwool-socks.co.uk/

Not cheap, but they do exactly what you want (keep feet warm in the cold, cool in the heat and don't stink!).  They also last for ages and survive a normal wash and tumble dry cycle no problem.

Sockguy are nice. http://www.sockguy.com/
They have some knee high versions, in a variety of colourful designs.

Vulpine long merino socks are toasty; on me they're mid-upper-calf length, but I'm 6'5", so YMMV. Only a tenner in the sale as well.
