Thinking of changing a Magnaclean to a Fenox TF1 Omega. Is this worth the expense? Reaon for changing is the robustness of the Omega and ease of cleaning for householder (and optional widget for ease of power flushing in future). Magnaclean is an effective cleaner of mangnetite but a pain to service due to difficulty of removing cap, reported leaking o rings and fragility of plastic.

Lt. Col. Larrington (retd.) had a Fenox TF1 spring a leak a couple of years ago though its identical replacement has so far behaved itself.  The threads on the fittings that join it to the existing pipework are made of cheese, though, unless its propensity for cross-threading itself was due to my having to fit it while lying flat on my stomach with a torch gripped between my teeth.

The Omega version is a brass fitting seemingly with good reviews and a 25 year quarantee. Two versions, one with no valves and slide compression fittings with double o rings allowing the outer body to be safely removed and another with isolation valves. Mmm will see what the HE thinks. In the meantime have orderd a pipe wrench so I can get the cap off without bending anything. Mangaclean fittings do not have a particularly good rep.
