And there goes all the planning for the power balance this winter. We had better hope for a mild one, with a substantial number of nuclear reactors off line for safety inspections / remedial work they have been saying for a while the power balance could be tight.

Local news* was reporting yesterday that Hartlepool was going to be returning to service before Christmas, though at reduced power. I'd imagine the same will be true for the other two.

*Local being a relative term with BBC North East and (occasionally) Cumbria

Spotted Didcot through the haze from the M40 earlier.  It's not the same without the full compliment of cooling towers.

Saw it yesterday while cycling past Ipsden, the other side of the river. Wondered for a moment what was wrong. Doh!

Is that a worse omen than marauding Orcs? I can't decide  :-\

I think he should take his chances with marauding orcs, rather than risk Didcot.
It is simpler than it looks.

Didcot is sunny.

They are trying to rebrand it.

"Didcot - Event Horizon" is what I think it said.

"Didcot - Event Horizon" is what it tihnk it said.

The first image to pop into my head was a brightly lit horizon with a mushroom cloud on it.

I was in Didcot today for the first time in a while. I am sure there used to be more chimneys. In other news, someone has nicked one from Battersea too.

All four are going to be stolen, one by one, but replaced with plastic ones.

Still I suppose that if a 338 foot by 28 foot plastic tube blows down on you it's still going to sting a little.

We were away on Saturday night - pparently there were about 300 police searching the area, but we completely missed everything. Only heard about it on national news.

Very sad.
