Anyone who lives within a 15 miles radius of it is a cnut.
Don't say that to Phil D.

I thought a didcot was the bit of paper a hole punch makes and collects in its little plastic paper-collector.

I'm only 11 miles away.  Despite this I've never actually been to Didcot.  I have used the cooling towers to navigate home more than once, though.
This thread is weird.

Most of oXford is within 15 miles - Flatus is very inclusive :)

I've worked in the new NotWork Rail signalling centre there several times.  On the latest posting there, my hotel was in Abingdon.  Dare I say it - it was a good ride by Sustrans path between the two.

Before the new shopping centre, Didcot's citizens had to travel as far as Abingdon to buy essentials, like new underpants and socks.  Now they can do that at their new Supermarket.  This explains the demise of Abingdon.
In a desperate last ditch attempt to stop the rot, Abingdon council installed a new traffic system to ensure that Didcot people that actually made it as far as Abingdon could never escape the town in their lifetime.  This it seems has been partially successful... however, as the visitors cannot find anywhere to park, they are still in their cars and not in the shops.  This also helps to explain the demise of Abingdon.

Cooling tower 'A' for me.

I'm confused - I thought Didcot was more South-East of Abingdon...  :P

At least Ewelme is up a hill  :)

Abingdon's out-of-town supermarket has far more pants and socks than Didcot's - I'd be blaming them before turning on the Diddycotes!

Our town's football club will be playing a friendly match against Didcot Town on 20th July. Very exciting, however I will be forced to miss it.

Didcot Parkway is only one of many Parkway stations in the UK.  Bristol was the first, but there is also

    * Alfreton railway station (formerly Alfreton and Mansfield Parkway)
    * Aylesbury Vale Parkway
    * Birmingham International railway station
    * Bodmin Parkway railway station
    * Callerton Parkway (Tyne and Wear Metro)
    * Coleshill Parkway
    * East Midlands Parkway railway station
    * Ebbw Vale Parkway railway station
    * Edinburgh Park railway station
    * Haddenham and Thame Parkway railway station
    * Horwich Parkway railway station
    * Lelant Saltings railway station (Park and Ride for St Ives)
    * Liverpool South Parkway railway station
    * Luton Airport Parkway railway station
    * New Pudsey railway station
    * Port Talbot Parkway railway station (despite its name, located in the town centre)
    * Southampton Airport Parkway railway station
    * Sutton Parkway railway station
    * Tame Bridge Parkway railway station
    * Tiverton Parkway railway station
    * Warwick Parkway railway station
    * Wednesbury Parkway tram stop
    * Whittlesford Parkway railway station

Didcot is the only one which begins with "D", though.

Roger, I'm worried you didn't need to look that list up and just knew it?

That's Chad. It's in Africa. Is Didcot twinned with somewhere in Chad?

Edit: Bugger again. Rogerzilla made the twinning joke whilst I was editing this post (see below).

Didcot is the only town in England named after what someone did. They left out the "get" though.

Didcot was one of Britain's first dormitory New Towns. The planners' experience from Didcot was later used in Doescot and Willcot, as well as the suburbs of Didhammock and Diduvet.

I went to Didcot once.  Twice, if you count the return journey.

On the way to RAL for an annual high energy physics gathering.  I was hopelessly late getting there owing to playing poker all night (in a friend of a friend's restaurant, using the after dinner chocolate mints for chips).   While packing for my train in the early hours of the morning (still in time at this point) I decided to have a sit down on my bed for half an hour...

I was a bit too jaded to even notice the cooling towers.  Sorry.
