I've just got back from a weekend in t'north.

George Hotel, Huddersfield, birthplace of rugby league and Harold Wilson - and no black pudding for breakfast!

Harrrumph. As a connoisseur of black pudding/pig's pudding/boudin noir/morcilla, I was not amused.

When I were a lad...etc etc

Still, if the Yorkies get the Tour, great!

So, a daytrip to Leeds to watch the prologue, then I get to decide whether to stay at home and watch them past my front door (Blossom Street?) or to camp on one of the climbs.   Then again, they normally like to have a flat stage and a sprint finish at the start, so I don't rate the chances of seeing them on Fleet Moss or Sutton Bank.  What do the panel think?

Since when was Yorkshire in France?

Breaking news: next year's TOB starts in Amsterdam.  ::-) And yes I'm being pedantic.

Not quite, but next year's TdF starts in Liege.

I saw the TDF in Barcelona

I actually do expect the weather in Yorkshire to be better.

That'd be a much better Depart than the lame one that London did.

Yes. It was present for the Depart from London and through Kent.

So instead of bottles of water etc, do you think they would be chucking out pork pies and bottles of mild from the caravan? :)

Don't forget the Le Tour branded flat caps. ;)

It wasn't the full caravan by any means.

It's probably best to read the one comment below the story in a Barnsley accent.

Quote
I understand that the previous time the Tour de France visited England there were very significant costs to local authorities. In particular, I understand that the costs to Medway Towns in 2007, for the same event, rose from a budgeted £86,000 to £482,890. I hope that there has been a realistic estimation of the costs to the local rate payers.

And the value to the community of the additional people visiting, the publicity value for yorkshire as a tourist destination?

Penny wise, pound foolish maybe.

Look after the pennnies and the pounds will look after themselves, or many a mickle makes a muckle.
