BA online check-in. Why does it only permit check-in 24 hours ahead of a flight? And then, because the flight is to the US, say you can't print your boarding pass as it has to be issued at the airport after your passport & visa are checked? Ho hum.

They let me print my boarding pass at the start of the current trip, though I don't know why they bother because passport checks and checked baggage.

I forget all about it for today's return flight until about midnight but was still able to snag a seat by the emergency exit

Amazon Prime you're rubbish.  I've ordered two parcels and neither have arrived the next day.  The first you lost and only got to me because someone with the same unusual surname as I worked at the organisation that you delivered it to - which incidentally was 26 miles away - very kindly delivered to my house because she was visiting someone close by.  Today's parcel is nowhere to be seen either and I've waited in all day for it. What the hell is going on?!!!

Yesterday: stopped at the only open café in 30k for a therapeutic ice-cream.  All the other patrons were of the Darth Vader clan of the invasive species.  The waitress was speaking to them in German, even the fucking radio Volksempfänger was tuned to a German station. This is France, for fuck's sake.  When we cross the border do the natives speak French to us?  Do they hell.

Where in France? There are some bits where that could be just the locals taking back their ancestral language.

Partner had enforced dental visit today due to filling/tooth disintegration.
Somewhat unimpressed with £53.90 charge for 5 minute NHS filling job.

Better hope you never need a lawyer. Or an architect.

NHS dentistry is still a bargain, compared to the cost of other professional services.

I know.
Having said that, I've had private dentistry for ages, which seems pricy yet durable. David's restorations and teeth seem to be made of cheese, though he has far fewer decayed, missing or filled teeth than me.

We still make quite a lot of cheese in Britain and some of it is highly regarded abroad.

Strangely, at the same time all those people expected (and still expect) to be paid to keep making things in Britain.

Because a lot of what was made in Britain wasn't worth buying. For instance motor cars and motorbikes that were horribly unreliable and expensive with it. I'm sure other examples can be found without too much effort.
