Brake blocks
« on: 06 February, 2020, 12:14:13 pm »

Looks like I'm almost worn through the rear brake pads on my Brompton, they take the insert type pad things. What is the current recommendation for pads? The Brompton is my city bike, used in all weathers.

Thanks

KoolStop salmon, as with most bikes with Al rims.
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

I'd say Koolstop Salmon - assuming you have alloy rims and not silly C/F ones.
Edit: X-post with LWAB.

I'm assuming it's an ali rim, it's what ever Kinetics built on there.

Thinking about it, I doubt it would be anything other than ali.

+ for Koolstop Salmon.  Not sure that they perform much better than the stock ones, but they seem to eat the rim a lot less.

Have ordered new kool stop salmon pads. I notice that the front brakes do not have the fancy new interchangeable pad design. I actually find myself wondering if those are the original pads, from 2007.

The rears i seem to eat a lot faster...

If you need a couple of shoes to take the front pads, make it known. I'm pretty sure I have some (Dura-Ace-type) shoes knocking about.

Ooh, that would be lovely!

Looking mostly like these:

Ignore the green arrow.
Your friend's QMCL address?
Or do you want to PM me an alternative one?

These Fibrax pads did not last too well on the rear.

Kool stop Salmon's are installed.

I have some new pads/holders to install on the front courtesy of Jurek. But I think I'll do that on Monday, when I've confirmed the koolstops on the back work. I like to only break one brake at a time...

Glad I put them on the rear first not the front. That's one hell of an improvement in stopping power!

Thank you everyone for the recommendation.
