Revised tour predictions
« on: 17 July, 2011, 01:57:22 pm »
No clear winners in any of the categories so far! Now that most of the major crashes are out of the way and we've seen some performances, how do we all think it will end?

Here's my revised prediction:

GC:
1) Schleck (A)
2) Evans
3) Schleck (F)

Green:
Cav

Polka dot:
A spaniard. Sammy Sanchez?

White:
???

It's a tough one this year but I'll give a go .

GC : Evans

Green : Cav

Polkadot: Sanchez

White : Rolland

But if the GC contenders don't try to attack , Voeckler can keep the jersey  all the way  :o

  • The Schlecks toss a coin to decide who wins and mark Cuddles all the way to Paris, or
  • The Schlecks get into a fist-fight over who is to win halfway up Alpe d'Huez.  Cuddles, laughing for the first time in his life, wins the stage, and the race, by ten minutes, or
  • Voeckler does the improbable, or
  • A meteorite or an unruly mob of wild pigs wipes out the entire peloton, with the exception of an unknown domestique on FDJ.  He wins all the jerseys by default.  The last four stages of the race are not interesting.

I've been backing Evans to win since about stage 3 and I'll stick with that.

It would be just like Contador to find some form by the time they hit the Alps, so I'll give him second. And Sanchez third. The Schlecks will rule themselves out of the podium places through fatal indecision.

Cav for green, providing he survives the Alps.

Sanchez for the KoM. Looks like there's a good rivalry developing between him and Vanendert, but Sanchez has the class and experience to win through.

Uran for the white jersey.

One of my "inside" sources still says Contador - I'm not convinced, but it remains a possibility.

Voekler's lead is over the main contenders, if and when he cracks, a minute or so would see Contador back in serious contention - and that's before the time test.

Keep your eyes on Cuddles!  He's been quite strong and is keeping a lowish profile.  I bet he'll attack on stage 19 (Galibier / Alpe d'Huez).

I'll bet that Contador will be aiming for that one too, if that's the toughest Alp stage. Or perhaps another hard Alpine stage because everyone wants to win Alpe d'Huez.
Contador looks to be getting better. It'll need something special totake 4 mins out of Schleck though. Cuddles could do it. I want A Schleck to win, but I'd be happy if Contador or Cuddles won. I'd like Contador to win if Schleck doesn't though. It'd need something special, which would be good to watch plus I like the idea of the one that got booed in the opening ceremony to stick it up those that booed him. I quite like Contador myself. It'd just be nice if Andy Schleck won IMO.

Starting to think I should put money on this...

Is it the fate of all sporting Andys to be always the bridesmaid?

I think someone needs to tell A&F that this isn't the doubles contest they've entered.
