Help with my Hetty!
« on: 24 February, 2021, 08:39:50 pm »
I have a Numatic Hetty vacuum. She's an old girl now, having been a housewarming present back in 2009. However, recently, her motor has been making worrying noises - sort of high-pitched - as soon as I switch her on.

I fear something is wrong with her motor, but I'm not sure what. Has anyone any suggestions as to what the cause might be, or things I could check?

I've never heard of one of these, but main bearings are the first thing which come to mind.
Possibly replaceable - I don't know.

Sure it's the motor making noises, and not something lodged in the hose that's whistling in the airflow?

As Jurek says, bearings sound plausible (there's one available at https://www.ransomspares.co.uk/parts/vacuum-cleaners/numatic-(henry)/bearing/397587.htm which suggests it's replaceable, though I'm only assuming that's a motor bearing), or a pattern motor is only about forty quid - https://www.espares.co.uk/product/es1667584/vacuum-cleaner-motor

Just put in a new motor, it's easy and cheap.

Numatic will send you the breakdown diagram if you ask them, they were very helpful when I had to replace the motors on my workshop vacuum.
