HPV Builds on Youtube?
« on: 05 July, 2023, 02:37:15 pm »
Joined the BHPC and going down a rabbit hole... Anyone point me in the direction of youtube (or similar) channels that document the building of these vehicles?

Russell Bridge has a good channel - https://www.youtube.com/@russellbridge/videos

That sort of thing.

(And bonus points if it's a pedalcar, I want to race them so much.)

If you've joined BHPC, you could try posting on the forum [if you haven't done so already] and ask Alan Goodman because he used to/still might do race pedal cars as well, so he might be able to point you in the right direction, or somebody in that community that knows of such sites.

As for other web sites - there are lots of small bits all over the place. Depending on what material you're looking to use, you might get something from general welding sites, or general carbon fibre sites as well as dedicated bike sites. It's a case of drawing all the strands together. And I can guarantee, after you've built your first one, before you've even ridden it, you'll probably be thinking how you can improve the bike and you'll be thinking about the next build. That's what happens down rabbit holes :-)

edit: For example, I was looking at this chap and his Kingcycle Clone the other week [don't ask me how I ended up there]. I've not met the gentleman [he might even post here], but I think he is/was a member of BHPC. This is my sort of builder......easy come, easy go. And it's the most forgiving was into building something - heavy mild steel and a basic mig welder. What's not to like :-)

You don't need to be a BHPC member to post on the forum, though you may be moderated until you've proven your non-spammer credentials.

Regardless, Alan will likely pop up and point you at Facebook or something.  Many BHPC regulars are active in the pedal car racing community, if only because the BHPC is the first place a savvy pedal car team will look when recruiting additional riders (DAHIKT).

Not YouTube, but Atomic Zombie forum and bhpc forum are some of the best places to learn about what works and what doesn’t when it comes to hpv homebuilding.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...

Thanks for the replies.

I guess I was looking for something like Project Binky but velomobile. Or the human powered equivalent of Superfast Matts slow fast car build - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoTU9_iCGa6hOQS-JE1DNWGb3Md2STFNm

No intention of building one*, was just interested to see how people go about designing and building them.

*This is an absolute and complete lie; I've already 3D modelled and ran CFD analysis on something. Just found out my iPad pro has a LiDAR camera, so 3D scanning is on the horizon too.
