The real Thomas van Schaik was an annual visitor to Battle Mountain as a member of Team Cygnus, first as a rider and then as a dogsbody, but rather inconsiderately moved to China in 2015.  Since the Battle Mountain event wouldn't be the same without him, certain other members of the team created 2D Thomas for joke comedy photographic purposes.  At the awards bash this year it was suggested I took him on a road trip; on returning home I further auggested he should accompany Prof Larrington to the Counterweight Continent where, hopefully, he should now be recovering from jet lag in Perth.

See, him and Basil have loads in common.  The Tunnel Ride isn't the same without him falling off on the Sands Of Doom.

Good news about the promotion, bad news about there not being any monies attached.

I had a call to go and see the big bods on the top floor of the ivory building. During the meeting I was asked why I'd not applied for a chair - a number had been advertised. My answer was that I didn't have a strong enough profile to be a prof yet. To which it was pointed out that the calebra of some of our profs was questionable and I could easily equal, in not better, this bunch.  I don't want to be a prof just because I'd be as weak as the current weakest bunch.

*eyeroll*  *passes you TEA*  Hope you get opportunities to prof-it-up on proper credentials and when you're ready!

I still hold that the tunnel ride should be re-routed so that the pub stop is before the SoD.  So much more interest for the teetotal, camera wielding members.  :D

I think I'm at readership at the moment not prof.  I'd would struggle with Professorial targets. I'm not even sure I want to be a professor and certainly not where I work.

Imposter, or Dunning-Kruger?

Thanks for that. I am not inept or too stipupid to realise it!!

Dunning Kruger Efect

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which low-ability individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly assessing their ability as much higher than it really is. Dunning and Kruger attributed this bias to a metacognitive inability of those of low ability to recognize their ineptitude and evaluate their ability accurately.

I rather meant the next bit of that entry: "Their research also suggests corollaries: high-ability individuals may underestimate their relative competence"

Good noos: Miss Ham is her companion of choice and I don't have to go  ;D

It's impossible to like Phil Collins. Even though Face Value is one of the best Albums ever made.

Ditto Dire Straits and Love over Gold.

It's far easier to take a view on Mick Hucknall.

Good piece on BBC1's ONE SHOW about cars overtaking bicycles safely, bad news was Phil Collins following it with a rant about cyclists without lights at night, and cyclists going through red traffic lights (he forgot to mention lack of helmets)
