Coming down from the annual trip to the attic to retrieve the Christmas tat so my wife can decorate the house. I finally, after twenty years, won the argument about real vs. faux trees, and we have a faux even though I heard her mutter 'naff.' Also got the garden centre to knock off 25%*. I think I only won because the remaining real trees looked a bit sad and we couldn't be bothered spending the afternoon driving around the outer fringes of London looking for alternatives. Sometimes we buy a tree on Christmas eve at 4pm (we wait until they look like they're closing). We did that the other year and they wouldn't even offer a discount. I mean, seriously, you're closing up on Christmas eve and you want to hang onto your Christmas tree stock? I'm no expert, but I think that the tree market is about to suffer a precipitous decline.
I won't be entirely surprised if a real tree turns up. I only ever win arguments temporarily.
*she shouldn't complain, my father used to go shopping for a tree at night with a saw.
