First line of songs quiz
« on: 25 February, 2011, 02:12:35 pm »
So far we have had childrens books, first lines of books and pop quiz (which seemed to turn into a commanility quiz, not that that is a bad thing), but it doesn't look like we have had a first line of song quiz....

So I'll start off:

"Mummy, where's daddy? He's been gone for such a long long time"
I feel like Captain Kirk, on a brand new planet every day, a little like King Kong on top of the Empire State

Are you sure?  I think it is Alice Cooper, but can't recall the track.

ETA: Yeah.  I Gewgalled it, which puts me out of contention for the answer.  Alice did it, but it may be a cover.

I do remember the AC one, but I am thinking of another one, for which google provides no proof.....

Either that or my age addled brain has managed to merge two songs from the late eighties....

'I seen you last night, you were drinkin' in the pub, you were drinkin' with that bird you tried to chat up in the nightclub'

One of my all time favourite songs, just for the lyrics

As I can't prove it one way or the other (in my mind it was the opening of the Breadfan cover by Metallica from the B-Side of Harvester of Sorrow), and my mind my have mixed it up over the years (completely possible) I'll give it to bobb/Clarion (FWIW the AC one is The Ballad of Dwight Fry)...

Over to you guys

That's definitely bobb's point.

And I suspect that Metallica may well have included a hommage to Alice.

Yes, that's the one.  Originally by Them (Van singing), but also covered, gloriously, by the Jimi Hendrix Experience.  Though they didn't include the words in question, which are Patti's own embellishment.

British sea power! A band I picked up on purely because of the name. Always make me think of Walton.....seriously.

That would be Matty Groves. Mostly by Fairport Convention (amongst others).

What about:

"I want you to know that I'm happy for you"
There's no vibrations, but wait.
