Baby, you pretend that things
Ain't what they seem
All this tension tellin' me
Just exactly what we should be
Now I don't mind us bein'
Some kinda casual thing
Listen all I want to do for now
Is have you come and take all of me

Can you put your hands on my waistline?
Want your skin up against mine
Move my hips to the baseline
Let me get mine, you get yours

Hang a "Please don't disturb" sign
Put my back into a slow grind
Sending chills up and down my spine
Let me get mine' you get yours

If you see me with a man
Understand that you can't question me
The feelings that you caught
Ain't my fault, can't help your jealousy

If you can handle the fact
That what we have has get to be commitment free
Then we can keep this undercover lovin'
Comin' hidden underneath the sheets

Can you put your hands on my waistline?
Want your skin up against mine
Move my hips to the baseline
Let me get mine, you get yours

Hang a "Please don't disturb" sign
Put my back into a slow grind
Sending chills up and down my spine
Let me get mine, you get yours

Come on and freak my body we can get nasty, naughty
All night a private party gotta hit that spot just right
Work me like a 9 to 5

It ain't about the kissin' and huggin' 'cause this is a physical lovin'
Straight sweatin', our bodies are rubbin' gotta hit that spot just right
Work me like a 9 to 5

We have a physical thing we make love, but don't fall in love
Let me get mine you get yours
We spend time just enough so you get yours and I get mine
No strings attached, I want your body not your heart

Put your hands on my waistline
Want your skin up against mine
Move my hips to the baseline
Let me get mine, you get yours

Hang a "Please don't disturb" sign
Put my back into a slow grind
Sending chills up and down my spine
Let me get mine, you get yours
Put your hands on my waistline
Want your skin up against mine
Move my hips to the baseline
Let me get mine, you get yours
Hang a "Please don't disturb" sign
Put my back into a slow grind
Sending chills up and down my spine
Let me get mine, you get yours
Come here, don't be shy, I won't bite
Let me get mine, you get yours

Reclaim the Night by Peggy Seeger.

It's very much 'of its time,' I think it was a 70s song.

I rejects your I Will Survive as being feminist, because (according to the arbitrary roolz I just made up :P ;) ) the protagonist is still defining herself through the actions of a man. It's not about her, it's all about him and nothing else.

But the rest are good. Keep 'em coming!

I also give you Loretta Lynn's The Pill:

You wined me and dined me
When I was your girl
Promised if I'd be your wife
You'd show me the world
But all I've seen of this old world
Is a bed and a doctor bill
I'm tearin' down your brooder house
'Cause now I've got the pill

All these years I've stayed at home
While you had all your fun
And every year thats gone by
Another babys come
There's a gonna be some changes made
Right here on nursery hill
You've set this chicken your last time
'Cause now I've got the pill

This old maternity dress I've got
Is goin' in the garbage
The clothes I'm wearin' from now on
Won't take up so much yardage

Miniskirts, hot pants and a few little fancy frills
Yeah I'm makin' up for all those years
Since I've got the pill

I'm tired of all your crowin'
How you and your hens play
While holdin' a couple in my arms
Another's on the way
This chicken's done tore up her nest
And I'm ready to make a deal
And ya can't afford to turn it down
'Cause you know I've got the pill

This incubator is overused
Because you've kept it filled
The feelin' good comes easy now
Since I've got the pill

It's gettin' dark it's roostin' time
Tonight's too good to be real
Oh but daddy don't you worry none
'Cause mama's got the pill

Oh daddy don't you worry none
'Cause mama's got the pill

Have you seen my blog? It has words. And pictures! http://ablogofallthingskathy.blogspot.com/

I reject your rejection of I Will Survive on the grounds that she's making it very clear she's not putting up with his shit and he's out on his ear. ;D

You're both wrong. I Will Survive isn't a feminist song, it's a royalist one. :P

Dead Weight by Kate and Anna McGarrigle

Ouch!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqkprRAYgJE

KATE & ANNA MCGARRIGLE
"Dead Weight"

You say that it's hard, I'm sayin' it's easily done
Buddy, won't you make up your mind
I'm sayin' that it's easy that i'll have no regrets
Get your things together, and get yourself out of my home

[Chorus:]
You're a dead weight
And I can't wait
To see the back of you

You're like a sore spot that never would heal
So leave my mind and body alone
You're driving me crazy and you're wasting my time
I have not forgotten that a stitch in time saves nine

[Chorus]

You never fooled anyone, we all know your kind
Trying so hard to be a Cassanova
Your charm's wearing thin and your voice rings like tin
I won't tolerate you, you're bugging me and my friends

[Chorus]

A mirror image of a feminist song would be this.
http://www.youtube.com/v/qmKDp6Uo0vE&rel=1

My favourite feminist song is 'I am woman', but I see no reason why women can't be strong.

Clearly feminism has an historical dimension. A figure such as Hildegard Knef would be fairly extreme today, but in post-war Germany men were in short supply, and I like her style.

With the woman's action coailition w.a.c. has got my back and i'm strapped to deal with the fools when i gotta
Break rules cuz a woman's got a right to choose and a right to her own life first cuz the real danger comes
From a coat hanger and i don't wanna think about how many women have tried it died from it, cuz they couldn't
Hide from it now the men, once again wanna tell me why and when i can have an abortion- i said it that's what

Corre Lola, Corre by Ojos De Brujo

Corre Lola, Corre

Historias de perdedores
siempre ha habido y siempre habrá
historias de almas gemelas
valientes ante el azar.

Historias de perdedoras
siempre ha habido y siempre habrá
historias de almas que vuelan
de esta cruda realidad.

Corre Lola corre
Corre alto y vuela
Lejos de estas calles
Donde reparten miseria

Corre Lola corre
Corre alto y vuela
Lejos de este infierno
que te va a llevar a la trena

¡¡¡Corre Lola corre!!!

Deambulando por la calle
sin nada en los bolsillos
nada que ganar todo que perder
sabiendo que te has ido
que espero yo de un mundo
donde vales lo que tienes
y yo no tengo ná de ná

Desesperá por la calle
buscando una salida
donde poder escapar
miradas por las esquinas
mientras lucen aparentes
mente en blanco y solamente
tú buscando un trago más

Y ésta es la vida que dice,
La vide que empuja, empuja
Y ésta es la vida que dice,
La vide que empuja, empuja
Y ésta es la vida que dice,
La vide que empuja, empuja
Y ésta es la vida que empuja
Empuja, empuja, empuja

Yo no tengo más
ay! que este corazón
Guardo la distancio
ay! entre tú y yo
Ni pena ni gloria
Si esto es una noria
Cariño sincero
Añejo sabe mejor

Ya no quiero ná más ná
que yo ya lo tengo tó
Guardo tu recuerdo
Tengo tu calor
Ni pena ni gloria
Si esto es una noria
Corre Lola libre
así es como te quiero yo.

Es la vida la que empuja y la que aprieta
quien conoce el camino de vuelta
Es la vida la que empuja y la que aprieta.

How does it feel like this
To be caught in a web of a heavy grip
Where you might won't believe or try to admit
That the one that you love is a fool you don't realize?

When will you finally wake up?
And the love that you hold is a taste of bad luck
And all that you have is a bag full of lies
He's blinded you deep by the look in the pit of his eyes

And if I knew that this could be a total catastrophe
I probably would have told you a little sooner so you wouldn't get hurt
If I could change this possibly it would be how you want this to be

'Cause it ain't over till it's all done
So let me finish my conversation
And yes, I'm tryna get your attention
'Cause you're distracted by affection

Can't you see that it isn't true?
Love you thought you had and you knew
And I've been chosen to tell you
That you're stupid and you know you gotta do it, leave

When you are deep in love
It's hard to see past all the dirt and the mud
You tell everyone that it's great and okay
When you know in your heart that it hurts and it won't go away

Afraid to let go of the hand
That you held so tight when he said I'm your man
But his eyes seem to sway at the flick of a switch
And you are alone in the dark with a bruised broken heart

If I knew that this could be a total catastrophe
I properly would have told you a little sooner so you wouldn't get hurt
If I could change this possibly it would be how you want this to be

'Cause it ain't over till it's done
Listen to my conversation
And yes, I'm tryna get your attention
'Cause you're distracted by affection

Can't you see that it isn't true?
Love you thought you had and knew
And I've been chosen to tell you
Yeah, you're stupid and you know you gotta do it, leave

You know that I do get it right
The truest friend you can't deny
You know that I don't tell a lie
I know that you love him

It's clear that you'll put up a fight
To keep the love still in your life
But I must speak, the truth be told
Even thought I know you love him

'Cause it ain't over till it's all done
Listen to my conversation
And yes, I'm tryna get your attention
'Cause you're distracted by his affection

Can't you see it isn't true?
Love you thought you had and knew
And I've been chosen to tell you
'Cause you're stupid and you know you gotta do it, leave

'Cause it ain't over till it's all done
Listen to my conversation
And yes, I'm tryna get your attention
'Cause you're distracted by his affection

Can't you see it isn't true?
Love you thought you had and knew
And I've been chosen to tell you
'Cause you're stupid and you know you gotta do it
'Cause you're stupid and you know you gotta do it, leave
I feel like Captain Kirk, on a brand new planet every day, a little like King Kong on top of the Empire State

There's a beautiful version on Youtube sung by Pete Seeger, unselfconsciously singing in the person of a woman. You can tell how much he admires his sister in the performance.

Meanwhile:

On Children - Sweet Honey In The Rock

Not a song about conflict between men and women, but an expression of the positivity I always admired in feminism.

I've realised that a rather glorious performance which is missing from this thread is Amanda Fucking Palmer's delightful ditty "Dear Daily Mail".

For those who don't know the background, the Daily Mail's entire review of Amanda Palmer's Glastonbury set was focused solely on the fact that her boob fell out of her top mid-performance. In response, Amanda Fucking Palmer produced this memorable (and thoroughly NSFW) performance:

When you left me in a fever ah shovel yuh shit
yuh never know you woulda be back ah grovel like dis
It take me so long fi get over now me finally can boast
seh Everything inna mi ticker exorcise yuh ghost
So me call upon de universe if only she would let me when I need her da most

You got some nerve
Asking if I think about you
sure I let you know I still do
My memory's fine
You got some nerve
Thinking we could still be friends now
But this is where the story ends now
I'm drawing the line

The bad about you eclipses the good I would have missed
And there's no longing in my heart when I reminisce
Oh, I'm so over dis!

(Chorus)
You're spilled milk
No use sitting crying over you
(No, me nah cry for u, no me nah bawl for you noo)
It's only natural that a rogue would do what a rogue would do
(No, me nah beg for you and me nah call for you noo)
And besides goodbye there's really nothing left to say
( No, me get up from you when mi did fall for u)
Cuz if you never spilled then you woulda gone sour anyway
No loss felt

I bet you think that my facade woulda crack
You're spilled milk
I bet you think I woulda welcome you back
No loss felt
I bet you think dat was de end for me (you're spilled milk)
But I find a betta wood if I did pull up a tree
(Spilled milk)
I bet you think you woulda still have me weak (spilled milk)
Like u nah know how much man outta street
You come ready fi me oil ah noint u
Well me sorry fi disappoint u

You got some nerve
Showing up, acting concerned now
Forgettin' I'm the bridge you burnt down just as you gotta cross (can't believe you woulda do dat)
You got some nerve!
Thinking I'm all about you
Swearing I'd be lost without you
But it was your loss!

Guess what

I'm not even angry anymore
I mopped some bigger messes than you up off of my floor
You're just another chore!

(No last slam for you, bare blue balls for you now)
No loss felt
