Identify this shrub please
« on: 26 July, 2016, 08:08:26 pm »
What until last week seemed a boring shrub looks as if it will be rather nice soon.
I have know idea what it is.
As all of it appears to be this year's growth, I assume I should hard prune it back in the winter.

Any ideas?

Looks like a phlox to me . more a herbaceous perennial than a shrub, in that it will die down to the ground in winter and enjoy again next spring.

Oh good.  Little attention required then.

Thanks

Disappointing that Google identifies it only as "plant".  Never mind, Google has been useful for verifying Spokenword's answer:

I'll remember this line. I have those days when a client asks, 'What's this plant?'....Just when my pre-coffee-break-mental-block kicks in.
