24mm - 840mm Zoom !
« on: 29 September, 2010, 05:56:39 pm »
Good grief, the new Canon SX30 IS has a 24-840mm equiv zoom.

I'm eagerly awaiting the dpreview test now.

I realise it will be "noisy at anything above 400 ISO" (they just cut/paste that into all their reviews of non-DSLRs) but that zoom, image-stabilised,  would have been something out of science-fiction just a decade ago.

flip-out LCD, a flash hot-shoe and "zoomable"720p HD.

It may be all the camera I need.

Impressive x35 zoom range. Probably a good cam & similar to the Pany FZ100.

At 600g it's reasonably heavy (for a small sensor cam) and what will you need all that telephoto for..?  :)  A max aperture of f/6 at the tele end = good lighting conditions needed, and a 50MPcm2 pixel d. will probably mean you'll want to stick to ISO80 whenever possible.

As you say detailed review needed.
