Does anyone have any experience of the Infinity Saddle which was mentioned very briefly in Arrivee a couple of issues ago?
Apparently they dont suit everyone, but why?
-
I am not sure I buy into the "less is more" concept of these saddles.
-
Your dimensions need to, pardon the pun, sit in quite a narrow window, otherwise your sitbones will be pressing against the outer rails.
I have one, haven't ridden more than 130k (in one go) on it yet. I'm on the wide side (I came from a Brooks Cambium C17) and just about fit it. It feels very weird to start with, but becomes akin to a well worn-in leather saddle quite quickly. (I'm not sure if that means 'as good', yet though). The most noticeable thing for me, is with days of consecutive riding, that I don't get that ouchy tenderness on my sit bones when you first plonk back onto the saddle. I am of the boney-arsed flavor.
The jury is still out for me, but it's decent enough that i intend on running it all year.
-
I'm always trying to find a better saddle. Quite expensive at £300+

I've got one. Tried it on a 200k brevet and a couple of shorter rides. Feels a bit weird - not painfully uncomfortable but I found the pressure on the glutes and hamstrings quite unpleasant and fatiguing after a while. I've gone back to my very well worn B17, rode a 200k permanent on it last week and felt more comfortable.
It may work better for lighter riders - I'm 93kg
I'll probably put it up for sale at some point but I'm waiting to hear from a local rider first who expressed interest in trying it.

The website quoted above suggests you can hire them to rest out...

The latest models have been available on the US website since December with a $25 discount code available. Limited details on what the improvements might be.

Hand wrapped in leather - does that mean they need some care like a leather saddle?
-
The infinity saddle got a brief write-up in the last but one (Autumn, I think) Arrivee. (Not available on line yet.)
I bought one about 6 months ago. It is easily as comfortable as my well worn in B17 for up to 100km. Not had the opportunity to use it on a longer ride yet - will be doing so this year.
I am 6'3", broad and on the heavy side - it seems to fit me OK.
The leather covering is very nice - I will be using proofhide on it every few months or so just because... :)
-
I should mention, the curious thing with the infinity is that I find it favours a lesser-padded bibshort.
For years, i've been going thicker with the pad (Lusso became my favourite) to get some relief, but my old worn out Castelli bibs seems to work a treat with it. The Lusso's end up rubbing me on my inner thigh.
-
Used to have a fizik which was great upto about400km and then numbness started.
I bought an infinity and have been delighted with it. Maximum is 700k with no problems.
I do agree about needing less padding.
If anybody is selling I would be interested for my other bike.
-
Curious about the Infinity, I emailed Ten-Point about the hire scheme and they replied:
"We offer a hire service for 7 days. (£55 including delivery). You pay the complete price for the saddle (£295) by PayPal (Payment to 10pt @ ten-point.co.uk) or online banking and then return the saddle in the same condition. We will then refund the difference (£240)."
-
My experiment has come to an end.
Having been away riding another bike with a 'normal' saddle for a week, I found getting back on the Infinity gave me a bit of trouble. Back to the Cambium for a bit to reassess.

So far I have used my Infinity saddle on a 200 and 400k rides and I love it. No discomfort at all during these long rides although it does take a while to get used to.

Has anyone else been using one of these saddles yet?
Interestingly, I noticed one of the first three to finish last year's PBP was using one (he was American!)
-
I have 2 of these.
I like them. The furthest I have done outdoors since getting them is ~150k which isn't really long distance but it was a doddle with no rear end problems. SWMBO is vetoing longer rides :(
More telling, I have one on the indoor turbo and that is very comfortable - I have always found the turbo inclement on the back end after any length of time, curtailing sessions but now have no problems with the infinity.
-
I forgot to update this thread! Yes, I was lucky enough to get one of these, Peat's one actually!
It took a while to get the level just right and I went for another bike fit to get me to a baseline to help. Once dialled in it was great and I successfully did PBP on it.
I've only got 2 issues with it, one was that approaching distances of 600km or so I was getting a bit sore where the top of my shorts pad was, using the thinnest pad shorts I had seemed to help a bit.
The second issue was the length of the nose, the one I have is a longer nose, and as such in the drops or on aerobars you certainly feel it! The shorter nose version might remove this issue.
The saddle was so good that during my October long tour of france I was riding without any chamois cream.
Drawbacks of the saddle, well if we ignore the expense of it!....
- It's still a leather saddle - so needs protecting from the rain (I think they might do an uncovered version?)
- I'm not convinced on the build quality, the construction under the nose where the rails meet is a bit wobbly on mine now and there is no way to resolve this. It's not fallen apart but keeps giving the impression it will...
However, it cured all my saddle woes which was the main point in trying it. These were residual from LEL some years before and no amount of trying saddles get over the issue but I think the ability to be suspended in the cutout shape of the Infinity allowed whatever the problem was to heal and now I am comfortable on the LEL saddles (though not as much as the Infinity :) )
If I had the spare money and it was a little cheaper I would get another, the shorter nose version certainly.

Delighted that it's found it's 'forever home'!

I’ve just grabbed an e2 from eBay. I’ll report back on how I find it.
-
I've looked at their shop linked above. I'm unable to understand why their water bottle does not follow the brand and have cut-outs similar to those on the saddles.
-
It does have a cut out, how do you thing you get the water in ::-)
-
I don't suppose anyone has an Infinity Seat they want to sell? :)
-
There is one on eBay at the moment.

thanks!
-
I've got one. Had my first ride on it today, all of 9 miles. Painful, but I was wearing jeans and haven't ridden for 10 years (CFS/ME) and the bike is new to me and doesn't fit yet. So I suppose any saddle would have been painful, except for a big squashy one on a sit up and beg bike. I suppose the next step is to try it with my Assos shorts. But I'm so tired that my next ride will not be for some time.
-
There is a narrow range where they suddenly become super comfy even with no padding. When I got mine I headed to my local LBS for a new bike fit so I could get it set to a known point and adjust from there.
-
OK, I'll keep trying. I do have bike fit data.
-
Yes as did I but I found it hard to get the infinity into the bike fit position without access to the way it was measured with retul. This was when I had a proper job so was able to afford a session rather than trying to get there on my own... It'd be difficult now!
I guess the takeaway for me is to work out a way of getting your own measures when you get home from the bike fit.
-
I have an infinity saddle and have ridden several long rides on it including PBP. I'm not settled on it to be honest, the reasons being that my sit bones are pretty wide and hence tend to sit on the edges of the saddle, and not within the cut out. It does relieve perineum pressure, but for me it isn't the armchair that some users report. The quality is not in line with the price of the saddle. The rails have movement in the fixture blocks on the underside of the seat, and it can creak a little when riding.
-
I would be interested to know if any women have tried this saddle.
Thanks
-
I gifted my original infinity to a young lady who was struggling and my understanding is that she loves it. Bear in mind she truly has the physique of a speed climbing triathlon athlete so her sit bones are different to 99.99% of the world.
-
Thanks, Chris
As one who plods uphill seated, my cycling style is a bit different!
-

Thanks
I know Kajsa Tylén is a big fan of them but I think Jasmijn didn't get on with it ?
Personally mine was fab all the way up to 900km of PBP when the comfy spot became quite a narrow range of sitting on the seat but I think that was always going to be expected at some point. However I didn't have the same soft tissue damage that I suffered on LEL using a Brooks C13
The C13 was super comfortable on the run up to LEL and then after D2 when everything was numb it was fine but left me with some damage above the sit bones I just couldn't clear... the Infinity was different enough to allow the area to rest and recover and I can now ride in a normal saddle even without padded shorts!
I would defo note however less is more with the Infinity when it comes to padding and I did have some pads where the edge of the pad was a bit to coincident with the seat edge but thankfully they were winter longs so didnt effect any long long rides.
-
Thank you. Lots of useful information now.
Seems its the usual situation of it suits some and not others....
-
I think I will stick to my San Marco Rolls saddles which I have on all my bikes as it could be expensive to start experimenting with a new saddle.
Just wish I could try one out somehow first.

Hi Jethro, feel free to get in touch with me via PM. I'm sure we can work out a way of getting you trying out my infinity saddle should you wish to.
-
I would be interested to know if any women have tried this saddle.
I sat on Kajsa's bike once and decided that it put pressure in some *very* wrong places. Didn't try riding it, but I got the impression that I'd be sliding off it if I tilted the nose down enough not to hurt.
...But I've never met a saddle that I considered to be comfortable. It's all about damage limitation, and I prefer a fairly mountain-bike-ish riding position (and therefore relatively wide saddles) because I'd rather mash my saddle area than the nerves in my wrists, so I wouldn't expect the Infinity to work for me. Audax-type riding is why Mochet gave us recumbents.
-
There's one on ebay at the moment. The seller is making a bit of a meal of things. His reserve price is £333. https://ebay.us/vmr37g I predict he'll end up losing patience and will accept an offer.

I tried one and thought it would have been good if it had been designed for a wider pelvis, but as it was the “unisex” design was too narrow

Oops. All these bonkers extremists look the same to me!

Just noticed they sell the carbon rails separately. It’s for 7*10mm so I would need new ears on my diverge but at $50 it seems worth it.

I'm interested in trying one of these but the only uk source will only offer demos as part of a £250 bike fit. http://www.ten-point.co.uk/infinity-saddles/
I use ISM saddles and have no numbness issues but am rather sore after a 400k over the weekend. I'm only 63kg and have no padding on my sit bones.
Does anyone have an Infinity they don't get on with and would sell?
Or have one I could try for a short test ride to see if I could rule them out?
I'm in SW London but willing to travel.
Thanks

I thought ten point had stopped even offering that. I will have a look and see if I have one of the old ones somewhere. I gave one to my niece in law who loves it after not getting on with other saddles. So I may have given it away.
You could buy one on Ebay then flog it round YACF at a £10 per sale reduction so everybody gets to try them.

I was also interested in trying an Infinity, for similar reasons. I have used SMP saddles for a few years, which combined with a slightly higher, less stretched out position, were great in getting my weight onto my sit bones and completely eliminated numbness. However, having upped my mileage this year, I have been getting pretty sore after some of the longer rides. By the end of the day on my last Audax my sit bones felt like daggers bottoming out on the saddle shell. It feels like I am losing padding as I get older!
The Infinity saddles only seem to be available direct from the USA, and are a bit too pricy for me to take a chance on. I found a Tioga Spyder Stratum going cheapish on eBay, so I am trying that out at the moment. It's a plastic mesh which flexes like a hammock. Initial testing on a short run felt OK, but I need to put it to the test on a 200+km ride to see if it is actually more comfortable when it matters.
Any other alternatives for reducing point pressure on the sit bones?

I think they are the opposite of what is asked for. They anchor you in position, make all movement chafing against your shorts and would IMO be a disaster for audax.
-
Some good reviews though so cant be all bad!
Also, a lot cheaper, so may be worth trying.
-
I managed to buy a second hand, unused Brooks Cambium C13 Carved from eBay. For me, the hammock design seems to distribute the area of support better than the SMP saddle I was using previously, so I don't get the point loads on my sit bones, but crucially don't get numbness from pressure further forward, either. I tested it out successfully on a 600 and got round without any problems. Definitely the best of the various saddles I have tried recently (for my particular situation). I have not put so many testing miles into the Tioga Spyder, but I think it does spread the load in a similar way, although it is a bit stiffer and the hammock effect is not as pronounced as the Brooks.
Another thing I tried on the 600 was applying Hydrocolloid plasters before the event (I have previously used them as first aid for saddle sores on long distance, multi day riding). I can't definitively say that they were effective as a preventative measure, but they certainly didn't make things worse.
I'm happy with the Cambium, so I'm not investigating the Infinity any further for now, but interested to hear what experience other people have with the saddle.

I can't see any on Ebay but Precise Performance have the E2 model for sale for £275.
https://precise-performance.co.uk/product/infinity-bike-seat-black-elite-e2/
Is this the model others have used?
That is a lot of money for a saddle but I feel I need to try one. As Chris says, if it doesn't work out I can probably sell it on to someone else here.

I have tried one and dont really get on with it although I know some people really love them
I may consider selling for £160
PM me if interested.

I saw a tandem sporting Infinity's for both steerer & stoker at the weekend.
