aah, PBP fever no doubt. People desperate to qualify trying to get rides in early and booking extras "just in case" is what I see, leaving other people struggling to get on their local events if they enter when they usually do.

This is a ‘backup’ 300 for me, but I’ll be doing it regardless as it is great PBP prep to ride through the night. I did it as part of my LEL prep and it was an invaluable learning experience.
Plus I love night riding!

Anyone from Sheffield doing this? Trains aren't running along the HV line on the Sunday
A lift (for petrol money, of course) or company on the ride back through the Peaks would be appreciated

Team , completed the route check done in 2 parts due to my decrepitude , roads BAD take care esspecialy in the dark .
2 km after Dinkys on Ford heath lots of gravel and holes near farm ,and again about 2km after Ightfield massive holes in road . instuctions out Sunday

Yes Im York Arrowing too.
Shame as otherwise its an attractive location / distance / start time where from Embra at least it would be possible to ride this one without an overnight stay either before or after.

Is the Mc'Donalds in Newtown open 24-hours again?
It wasnt the last time I went thru' there as trade is not so good now with the new by-pass taking most of the traffic.

According to Google Maps - McDs is 0600-2300 but there's a 24 hour petrol station

6 am is probably OK. I got there at 20 past 5 in 2015, but that was a consequence of a) a howling tailwind and b) riding with JJ.
(Not riding this year, I've other plans this Easter).

Is the Mc'Donalds in Newtown open 24-hours again?
I hadn't thought about the effects of the new bypass, I assumed that this was a temporary Covid restriction. A 6am opening time gives you 7 hours riding time, so just ride a bit slower!
I suppose that altering the start time to midnight (as it used to be) might make Newtown McDs control more useful for the riders who only need 6 hours to cover that first 150km. I think we moved the start time to 11pm to suit the cafe start (anyone remember Ken's Cafe at Wood Lanes?), and I believe we are this year using Poynton Church for the start. I can't see the ladies from the church wanting to serve teas and coffees for a midnight start.
However, Newtown is the least of the considerations for this year's Plains 300. It looks like Dinky's Dina is not open 24 hours at the moment (any update from locals on this would be appreciated). We have plans to have a pop-up control for brews and snacks here - and if anyone fancies a shift with the kettle through the night, please PM me!
At least McDonalds at Whitchurch is open 24 hours. In the "old days" we used to have to control at the petrol station using the late-night hatch, with the poor attendant dashing about inside fetching rider orders.
