There is a "team turn left" option either at Mowden Hall Lane or Tofts Chase.  Both would still leave a respectable distance on the clock at the pub without worrying about missing last orders.

Behave yourselves, the pub is at 24.5 miles which me and Nik’s Nick did the other week when we went to The Compasses.

Even turning at Sportsmans and missing out Terling is a 70k night on the tiles - just about do-able but I know Steve wants to show the new person a good time hence the tour of the highlights......

I need to go put some sealant in the fixed wheels.... If I am not at Spa then don't wait for me!

suspect I'll see you guys at the pub later..

Oh God, I’ve just thought, is there going to be some sort of live entertainment horror going on at The Three Elms this evening?

That's next Tuesday, I checked as soon as I saw which pub we were scheduled for...  http://www.the-three-elms.com/events/

That's the weekend over with and its back to work so thoughts turn to Wednesday evening

Jibers, Lord of FORWARD PLANNING (1), has deemed that this week we should descend on The Sun, Feering for their beer fest.  Therefore, the archives offer the Witham Peloton, THIS ROUTE which we rode on Wednesday 7th January, 2015 - I remember it well.

[1] The calendar is still looking a bit empty  :-*

NB: there is a chance i might not make the ride as I have to be in Oxfordshire during the day, hopefully I will be back in time.

THIS ROUTE

Shame you'll miss the beer festival  :o

That route is pre-Jiber - ie from the more miles less beer days of MEMWNS.

Huh?  According to the interweb it starts on Wednesday 3rd, which is when we plan to visit.  Or am I missing something?

Yes, I have noticed jibers doesn't like more than a few miles before the Wednesday pub.  If 30 miles frightens him I would advice he shouldn't try long distance cycling, doomed to fail he is.

I think the point that Honourable GS is making is that the beer festival is likely to be closed for the evening by the time you get there by your proposed route  ::-)

The plan was to not share on here as it potentially provides too much forward planning for unwanted visitors who may be more interested in bikes than beers....

ETA:

Here's the link.

https://calendar.google.com/calendar/b/3?cid=ZHF0azNkdmVya2pwNDhnMHNtZjZubmlhdmdAZ3JvdXAuY2FsZW5kYXIuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbQ

It is not public so unless you have given me your google account details via email, it will not be visible to you... I am happy with this approach as it gives us some control with who can see it.  It's shared with 24 people at the moment (Tomsk - your's is the BT email address)

Where is the bike parking at the Sun Inn? Or to rephrase that, where is the best place to lock one's bike? StreetView doesn't offer much, apart from next to some trees and signs on the grass area opposite the pub.

There is a gap/alley through the houses to the beer garden

Yes, but it does look like someone else's property (that's my excuse for missing it on my first two visits  )

Once found, there are lots of places to lock a bike to between the pub and the car park.

I'll be missing out again tonight even though it is that close. Work, Home and Gout have been a consistent pain the in the ar*e recently. I've signed up for the Rich Ellis 100k this weekend so hoping the current ankle pain will be gone before that.

I’m OoO today and not likely to make it home in time for the Spa roundabout depart. I may go direct later.
I am also on the REM too, hoping to be recovered sufficiently from man flu to have a steady/slow ride round.

tippers, we’ve just started (like 30 seconds ago) a MEMWNS Outreach Programme designed to assist members who find themselves incapacitated and are generally now classified as “vulnerable” so we can come to you. jibers will fix a date. What’s the worst...?

Doesn't sound like gout - you might want to get a second opinion.  ;D

There is a gap/alley through the houses to the beer garden

When standing on the road looking towards the Sun Inn, is the gap on the left or the right?

Using StreetView there appears to be a blue gate about 3 doors away to the right, and an archway about 3 doors away on the left. Neither look like public access points, so either could be the correct entrance ... or neither!
