Though I would not take a dressing gown on an Audax, I have found one very useful when a fire alarm has sounded when I (or my partner) have been in a state of undress.
This is not that infrequent, as those who attended the 2015 AUK Reunion might recall...

Admittedly, on that occasion the need for a dressing gown could be avoided by the simple expedient of having remained in the bar until the alarm sounded. This may be a little less practical at LEL controls.

Was the alarm going off the call for last orders?

AIUI Hotels may serve residents all night so there are no last orders...

It was 2am IIRC.
