I had a BT engineer here as my broadband has been even worse than usual (128kpbs is rubbish, but 80 to nothing at all is not acceptable).

He actually listened to me, did a whole load of things, gave me a new hub, changed my socket and worked on something out at the junction box.  He said it'd take some time to reach potential because the line "is so used to running at a certain speed", which sounded like nonsense and I was very unimpressed as it was incredibly slow up to about an hour ago...it's been actually getting better and better.

I just tested my line, and got 960kbps!

Ive NEVER had more than 256 since I got broadband!

;D  I'm a happy bunny, I can actually DO stuff!

I'm pleased you've got a substantial improvement but still rather unimpressed with your overall speed. If you live anywhere close to your map location, it shows how rubbish the system is.

I'm 5 kilometres from my exchange and have line attenuation of 67.6dB, which apparently is very high and causes significant interference.  I can't remember how accurate I let the map thingy be when I set it up on here, but it shouldn't be too far off...

Hey, I've more than tripled my best ever speed-for the moment I'm ecstatic!  ;)

Edited to say my map location is well within a km.

Ouch.

I think that's only good for about a megabit...  *looks it up*  Yeah, not far off.

Finally...

Some of you will know that I recently received confirmation of passing my LPC.   Today I finally got the results - one was outstanding because I opted to do a re take due to procedural irregularities.   Well, my re-take decision was justified as I gained 16% more for that module.

We're out for double celebrations tonight - Mlle PB's birthday (Saturday) and my confirmed results.    8)  ;D

Am off to Wales this evening and taking my new bicycle with me  :D I shall also be taking my Dad for a ride along the Swansea Valley  :)

Then we are off to Swansea Docklands for my aunt's 50th Birthday and the following night we are going to 'Sospan' in Llanelli for a meal (its owned by two members of the welsh rugby team).

MY CAMBERWICK GREEN DVD HAS ARRIVED!!!

Oh Boy!  There's gonna be some quality viewing done in my house tonight 8)

I never realised there were only 13 episodes.

I have this.
Time flies by when you're the driver on a train, and you ride on the footbridge, there and back again.

My children wont let me watch it.

About a year after my mum started a rapid ascent into an extended and disturbing bout of mania, following the diagnosis and treatment of bowel cancer 6 months prior to that, she's been told she will be finally off the olanzapine (hideous but necessary antipsychotic drug) in a month's time. She also appears to be free of cancer.

That's been one of my mantras over the years - albeit phrased differently ("Growing older is mandatory, growing up is optional").

This was, of course, the source of a great deal of angst for the wee'uns over the years.
