Good news!  Just had a letter telling me that following a 3 year pay freeze I have finaly been awarded a pay rise.

Bad news!  This is from the job I quit 3 weeks ago.
The friendly landlord helped us put our bikes into his very big shed.  Very carefully we did not fall into the acid bath which was there.

The Space Hijackers are :) of which I might be a member. It was great, we're on various media, including BBC World Service, and on Drive Time with Eddie Nestor, meaning hundreds of thousands of more people now know about the Arms Fair which was our main aim.

It was an excellent action.  The media seemed happy to let the Death Trade Fair pass by without comment, but you got it on the airwaves.

Thank you to all the Space Hijackers :-*

Good: the cat has survived and recovered from an iliac embolism, which is in "Never tell me the odds!" territory.

Bad: although he's fully functional again, he may drop dead at any time when another clot gets stuck somewhere vital.  Definitely on his ninth life.

Bad news: Tetley's Yorkshire Tea Loaf, which I spotted in a supermarket and thought might be a pale imitation of the tea bread my mother used to make, is actually a completely different thing. And it's really not that nice. Far too sweet, not enough dried fruit and far too little tea (10% Yorkshire tea infusion according to the ingredients, whereas my mother's was soaked in a pint of tea overnight).

Good news: well, it is nevertheless cake!

Your mum's sounds like barm brack.

3/4 pint cold tea
10oz sultanas
2oz of peel or other dried fruit (I usually use 12oz sultanas unless I'm running out)
7oz dark or soft brown sugar

Soaked together overnight.

In the morning, whisk in one egg and 10oz self raising flour.
Bake in a loaf tin at about 170 or a little less for between one hour 30 and one hour 45.

This is my mum's tea bread recipe:
500g dried fruit
1 mug dark brown sugar (muscovado)
1 mug black tea

soak overnight

add 2 mugs self-raising flour
mix well

bake in medium oven 45-90 mins (depends on size, quantity of tea, etc)

So pretty similar but no egg.
Barm brack sounds a pretty northern name - my mum never lived north of mid-Wales, but her dad's family had connections in the north-west, so maybe it came from there.

The good news is that I've had a rebate of more than £200 from my electricity supplier. This is the second or third year that this has happened, and is mostly down to my younger daughter leaving home.

The bad news is that my VISA bill this month will be over £2000, boosted hugely by car insurance (>£600) and car service and repair (>£350).

The SRAM Spectro hub gear turned up today & a neighbour took it in whilst I was out on a motorbike ride through the leafy lanes of Warwickshire. Bless.

Because I wasn't in & didn't get it early enough, I can't get the rim I want in time to have the Pompino ready for the weekend! I'm thinking of swapping the tyres on the Orbit that I'll have to take from Schwalbe Land cruisers to Schwalbe Delta Cruisers. There be hills in Shropshire.

Double bollocks: My LBS can't get hold of the rim for 4-5 days. Ho-hum.

The house that myself and Mrs T love, not that far from the current THoFC, has come up for sale.

It is £450k

I will let you guess which is which :(

My Mrs T managed to fall in love with a building in Brompton when we drove past on Sunday. BIG boarded up Victorian pile. For sale by auction. Lottery winners only, I suspect.  :hand:

PS. I seriously want to take a photo of our folders outside the Brompton General Store . . .  ;D
