Friday afternoon booked off work.  Sunset is at around half five now - I might even arrive in the light (for the first time?) if I get my skates on.

Go on then. I saw crocuses out today, it must be spring.

Important question: is there anywhere Darlo-ish that will be showing the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on the Saturday?

I'd better get the summer bike out then.

Dales Bike Centre at Grinton is probably your best bet. Or Mike's place in Newby.

I'm going to have to pull out :(

The dental hospital have moved my appointment to the Friday and I can't afford to miss it.  Enjoy your trip.

(This is all the result of a faceplant as a teenager.  Silly Karla.)

I'm only 35 miles away, so I really have no excuse not to. Should probably book a room, but probably no rush.

If you call yourself me you'll get a tenner off the room.  Just remember to use my real name though: I didn't book it in the name of Karla Bunbury.

Unfortunately I'm out. Too little money, too much to do at the moment. :(

Sorry to say that I won't be there.  I did a 200k DIY on Tuesday.  Although it was quite a flat route the gusty headwind was hard work on the return trip so I'll be taking it easy this weekend.

There will be studs. There had better not be any visitations- Mr Smith isn't actually available for International Rescue duties tomorrow.

I don't have studs, but I finally managed to source some 3" tyres for my Surly ;D

I am afraid that I will have to move myself from the "maybe" pile to the "lightweight" pile. The torn rotator cuff has not healed anywhere near enough to inflict the climb up to the Tan Hill Inn on it - it was bloody painful enough riding up the railway bridge on the way home from work last night!
I've even got studded tyres fitted to the touring bike and everything! Probably need them Tuesday night anyway, unless work is cancelled due to snow and ice!

How you're having a lovely ride. Weather seems cold but bright. I'll bet the views are amazing.

I'm here too!

It must be spring, I saw lapwings and loads of nesting birds out on the moors. And lambs!

Where was everybody? It was lovely out on the hills.

We more-or-less forgot to get a group photo at the pub as everyone was too busy taking the piss out of my tyres while I fixed a puncture (they're semi-skimmed, not full fat), and I'm pleased to report that Tracy was in fine form while serving breakfast.

Aidan and I indulged in a bit of bog-snorkelling on the way back.

And we found a cafe in West Auckland which does decent coffee - and soup-anna-sarnie for 3 quid (soup-anna-roll is two quid, but fuck it, let's throw the boat out). Take that, London.

Absolutely fantastic! Nice to see Aidan pushing his pushbike. Which of you dropped your fag end on the moors?

ETA Just seen it in the Crinkly bridge thread!

It's the title of the photo on Flickr too. It's a good bridge. Bastard to get to, though.

There was loads of burning up on the hills over the weekend. Dry weather, I suppose.

Yeah. We had a family walk up the Topping today, and it was smoky as hell - two or three big fires to the East. How the hell do they get anything to burn after weeks of rain and snow?

Bit of petrol to get it started I suspect. Evidence is mounting that, contrary to what they would tell us, it's actually environmentally damaging. However, it is necessary to support the unnaturally high density of red grouse that they need for driven grouse shoots.

As is killing the raptors

And nice to think that we are subsidising this as taxpayers.  The fee for a shotgun licence has been kept well below the cost of police checks etc; and the subsidy for grouse moors was raised by the coalition government at the same time as they cut taxes for the wealthy and made massive cuts to support for poor, vulnerable and disabled people.

Are they open? There was a rather terse message on Facebook earlier from the Lion Inn at Blakey, reposted by North Yorkshire Police - basically saying "FFS, stop trying to get up here - we're closed, and so is the road."

The Police have been complaining a lot about folks moving Road Closed signs, driving down the closed roads and getting stuck. What is wrong with people?
