Aliens
Ah one of my favourite films. So many classic lines:
"Vasques, you ever been mistaken for a man." "No. Have you."
the 'nuke it' line. The 'get away from her' line.
Game over, man.

I gotta watch them again, might do that when Peli is otherwise occupied with the dancing on the beep.

Not III, though.  Srsly.

I didn't watch it, but it seemed to be, in MTV terms, on heavy rotation in our house yesterday.

Phineas and Ferb, the Movie.

If I hear that fucking theme music one more time I shall go all Falling Down on the TV set....

I know what you mean, though what I do like about the Alien series is that the monster* evolves/changes/learns, which makes #III worth a watch.

*) I know that there are other good monster out there, but the Alien is just perfect in my eyes, the best sifi monster that there is, just pure fear, raw, teeth, size along with the acid for blood. Mr. Giger you are an evil, wicked man whom I would I give my right arm  so that I can look into your mind.

Director's Cut of III is actually quite good (apart from the re-edit of the final scene) - it makes a lot more sense and there's a lot more character development/explanation.

The Thing - the original 1982 one.

I hadn't seen it before, didn't have any preconceptions except "Kurt Russell is rubbish" and was really impressed with the story and special effects.  It stands up really well to the passage of time IMO.   I may have to revise my "All films with Kurt Russell in them are rubbish" theory.

4 is the worst.  There's no point in having a discussion about it, it's just terrible.  3 was just poor.

Do you think? But what would I know, I'm not the mechanic here; mostly I just hurt people.

Seems to me we need to re-educate some of the brothers...

If you want an example of a franchise that started well and went rapidly down hill, I offer you 'Species'.

Die Another Day. Thank God Brosnan didn't make another Bond, and who in the name of double glazed bummery told Madonna she could act?

IIRC 3 was made on a very small budget compared to the rest of the filums.

My personal opinion is that 3 is not the bad film many paint it to be.

Brian Glover is good as The Guvnor' of the penal planet.

Yikes  :-[  I didn't realise that the 1982 one was a remake - I meant to differentiate it from the one I thought came out recently, but I see from IMDB that the new version isn't out until later in the year.

Milk the other night on TV. Hadn't even heard the story before and new nothing about the film. It was very interesting and Sean Penn's performance was excellent.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Copenhagen - a film version of Michael Frayn's play Nils Bohr and the German nuclear physicist Heisenberg and their consciences.  A three-hander with Stephen Rea, Daniel Craig and Francesca Annis as Bohr's wife.  Absolutely superb.  Amazed to see it was from 2002 and I'd never come across it before.  Great music by Dominic Muldowney (with a bit of help from Schubert).

Ice cold in Alex.  I'm sure one scene has a Land Rover (invented 1947) in it.

Correct. The Internet Movie Database is your friend:

Quote
In the very last scene, as Lutz is being driven away from the bar by the British military police, a Land Rover can be seen parked next to the bar. The first Land Rovers were produced in 1948, six years after the battle of Tobruk.

Last weekend saw the first 20 seconds of Breakfast on Pluto before it glitched. It was the third copy that Lovefilm had sent. All borked. Will see if the library can get it in or just buy it cheap and have done with it. We've not got past the wolf whistle on the building site yet.

We watched The Dish and Local Hero instead. I thought they were similar in how the characters were all painted in a good light despite their quirks or because of them.

Breakfast on Pluto is one of the all time great films (and stars one of my favourite actors, the straight man's male crumpet, Cillian Murphy).

Just watched 'Scott Pilgrim vs the World'. Supremely silly inoffensive tosh.
