Do they exist in single speed guise? The usual suspects (SJSC, Surly, Hubjub, wiggle) only seem to do that specific size in ramped and pinned flavour or not at all. Any ideas? I already have 15 and 16 tooth dura ace sprockets so needs to be 40t really, or 42t at a push.

Cheers! Call me fussy but it's 1/8" and the stuff on the bike is all 3/32", which would mean at least a new chain.
-
yeah, but if you Google the maker you may get some joy
I've got one of those in 3/32. I'm keeping it tho' ;)
Otherwise you may struggle; 135 in 3/32 is going to be mainly road I think. Miche track are that size but don't seem to go below 46. You may have to think about a bigger sprocket if all else fails.

Would a standard ramped/pinned inner ring suffice? I'm loathe to replace sprockets, as have naff all cash at the moment.

Is £72 too much? It Can Be Done.

Why not ? May want to mount it back to front so that the 'countersinks' are on the outside. I did this with an inner ring before. Not ramped and pinned but your chain isn't going to touch them anyway.
-
Ramps and pins are OK, reduced-height teeth aren't good. Of course, on a SS a thrown chain is less likely to cause grief.
-
Stronglight ones are fine, the pins are removable and there are no missing / lowered teeth for improved shifting.
The 110BCD 40T one I had was a little elliptical, but at 135BCD I have a 48T which is near enough to circular.

He speaks the truth ;)
I thought the BB spindle was bent at first.

But, weirdly, both of the 38T ones are pretty circular. Why does 2 teeth make so much difference?
-
Probably just their QC.
I've managed to find a Sugino 41T on eBay, which is also a 1/8" ring so will run quieter with the chain I'll use (Sturmey rear sprockets are 1/8").
-
Sugino have 40t 3/32 without pins, it's called : 130J (http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/CG408A09-Sugino+130J+Chainring.aspx).
It costs 22$ in USA ( haven't seen any UK shops) :(
