29F, that's, what - 2 in real money?
He's taking it steady this morning. Hope the cars around him are too.

Amazing that after his 200miles or so yesterday Steve is out again already---what a tough tough guy

(yes it`s - 2 c, and the other 2 riders have +7 > +9 c conditions, big difference)
....after the `tarte de pommes`, and  fortified by a couple of shots of limoncellos,  I flew up the Col de Bavella whilst thunderstorms rolled around the peaks above

I scraped the ice off our outdoor thermometer this morning and it's -3 here in Worcester. According to the Trackleaders web site it's a positively balmy -1 where Steve is right now.

And, bizarrely, the Trackleader web site has started to display temperatures in a mix of Centigrade and Fahrenheit. Very odd.

Just below freezing here, with fog. Am supposed to be going for a ride. At least we don't start until 10 am.

Steve started at 5:12am and is currently sticking to A roads - which is, of course, the sensible option.

When I looked outside this morning I thought "I'd hate to ride in this" and my Steve Admiration Ometer notched up another few clicks.

He's had worse.

The inaugural WARTY, 10/1/2009. -10°C when we left home*. During the ride, the highest temperature recorded by the two nearest Met Office stations was -2.8°C. Steve cycled to and from the ride (Milton Keynes to Marks Tey). He told me he stopped at an all-night Tesco and when he took his waterproof off his sweat had frozen to the inside of it.

*That thermometer was later retired, as it was reading about 1.5°C too low, so probably more like -8.5°C.

I wasn't there, but if I remember the reports correctly, Steve rode over from MK, joined the WARTY, then rode home again, sleeping in a hedge somewhere en-route.

Where he is now, ie Aylesbury area, the fog is lifting as is the frost. And the roads looked ok - not the white hoar frost we've had several times in the last week.

I can confirm that we've had freezing fog in these here parts, south east Essex. And by the looks of the tracking page teethgrinder is going through similar.

Steve has got a useful layer of insulation now, which is perfect for this time of year. but doing the distances he's doing means that it will disappear in few weeks time - he needs to make sure he eats enough and often before the winter is over.

Did he put on weight especially for this? I did notice he seemed a little rotund in his red, tight fitting, jersey!

I think my `admirometer` is at Mach 1 ++ already for Steve  ;D

I can confirm that I overtook Delthebike on a hill today. It was  He was wearing his 3/4 and was going well despite the freezing conditions - the car's thermometer said it was -1°C. I have to add that I was in a car heading for the start of our ride and Del turned up a few minutes later.

Every day this goes on I get more and more dumbfounded by what an amazing achievement every single mile is.  Especially in this weather.
Does not play well with others

Especially in this weather.

Also, while few would disagree with his decision to ride main roads in these conditions, some of those roads he's been are not easy to ride. Today he's been on the A413 from Winslow to Buckingham. That's a stretch I know well and always avoid it when I hit north Bucks at the weekend. It can be very busy, even on a Sunday and it's also not that wide in places. Zooming into that tracking site, will reveal he's been hacking down the A41, A422, A421 etc So while he's not going that far a field at the moment, and these are roads he knows, it's still requiring a lot of concentration from him to keep wits firmly about him.

For those not following Steve on Twitter, he posted this at about 5pm:

If I do another 8 miles I'll have done 1200 km since I set off. 6pm is 90 hrs from when I started #pbp

Quite amazing to think he is effectively doing a PBP or more all the time throughout 2015.

I'm also hooked on Steve's ride. Might have been mattc who said it's the best thing in cycling for ages, and I totally agree.

Go Steve. If anyone can do it, it's you.

Chapeau Steve.
